Good morning @WonkyWomble š Ā enjoy your gardening today ... but find some time to put your feet up too. š¤Ā
@Busy-Lizzie ... I enjoyed the Last Night performances too ... Benedettiās Lark was simply gorgeous, the best Iāve heard her perform it ... and unmarred by coughs and balloon popping etc as it wouldāve been in other years ... last night you couldāve heard a pin drop. Dalia Staveska was incredible ... that spaced orchestra and singers mustāve been challenging ... and those fabulous jackets ... deep envy here. Golda Schultz was hugely impressive ... superb control and spine tingling clarity Ā ... and Youāll Never Walk Alone was great ... hopefully itāll be included in future Last Nights to mark these difficult times and itās heroes ... remarkable times are when new traditions are forged.
All in all I enjoyed the Last Night so much more without the antics of the Promenaders, and I do prefer a smaller orchestra without the bombast ... but then Iām an Early and Chamber music fan.Ā

Good morning all. Just been out to do some watering before it gets too hot. All the flowering plants are taking on a better colour now that the nights are cooler and the light levels are different, it almost looks presentable again! I suppose he may have forgotten @Fairygirl and perhaps didn't quite take in what the Consultant said to him, what with everything else. I'm looking forward to a Zoom with my daughter this morning, I don't think they have found a house yet that is quite right for them.
Looks like it could be a good day weather-wise. Instead of pounding the streets of Newcastle, I will be brushing fence panelsĀ Think I should go for a run later on, though.
Morning all, it looks a lovely day out there so I'd better get cracking. I want to do something in the area where we had three small cherry trees by a wall taken down but not sure quite what yet. I also enjoyed the Last Night of the Proms, it was quite different wasn't it. Best wishes for your family @floralies. How many more fence panels do you have to do @Biglad? Sounds a mammoth project,
Hello all. I bought several Pennisetum Rubram plants one year, @WonkyWomble,Ā one of the few grasses I like, not a grass fan, but they all died in the winter. I like flowers or good leaves like Hostas. In fact, Hostas have both but they aren't so happy in hot SW France. I've planted several in Norfolk.
@Dovefromabove I thought Golda Schultz had a glorious voice but I really didn't care for that arrangement of Jerusalem. I was glad that they did the traditional Jerusalem as well. I rather like the antics of the Promenaders, gives so much atmosphere, makes it a special and different occasion. You can find the music without them on DVD's, You Tube etc if you don't want the Promenaders.
Another hot sunny day here.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Mum is back at home. The hospital reckon she had been on the floor for about 24 hours, which I am livid about, because we have paid for them to check on her flat, if they do not see her during the day. They swear blind they did and that she was fine, but they are telling me lies. Hope all are well.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
I do have lots of recordings @Busy-Lizzie ... but for me thereās nothing to compare with the immediacy of seeing as well as hearing a live performance ... itās something Iāve enjoyed all my life, from visits to my primary school by singers and musicians, my first of many many visits to Snape Maltings when I was about 13, Ā chamber and Early music concerts held at Wingfield College just a couple of miles from my old home and singing in choirs and bands ... and then when I came here to Norwich I worked full time for the N&N festival and then for an Early Music centre ... with several performances each week (plus rehearsals of course) ... I was in heaven ... I've really been missing live performances. The Proms on tv have been so nourishing this year.Ā

Not that big @Lizzie27 - I'm just making a big deal out of it because I'm not a fan of paintingĀ
Had 14 concrete posts, 14 6' x 1' concrete panels and 7 fence panels to do originally. After today, I should be down to 1 fence panel and a couple of concrete panels (unless I pull out the pea plants and finish the job). I start to ache after a while so do it in small bursts over a LONG period of time (not helped by the weatherĀ )
Afternoon folks,Ā It's a beautiful day here and I've managed to talk myself into doing some gardening.Ā Removed a lot of dead foilage and and did some weeding.Ā It's looking good for early Autumn with lots of colour.
It's been a challenging week looking after the boys with no TV, no internet and not many toys but I've managed.Ā Internet engineer coming out on Thursday and so she will be able to get the TV sorted, she has picked up more of their toys this morning.Ā The ariel at the property isn't working so couldn't even get BBC etc.Ā The washing machine isn't working so I did a couple of loads for her yesterday and the central heating controller is obsolete.Ā Both things being sorted by landlords.Ā Re the TV she was told by SIL that as long as she keeps behaving herself she can piggy back on his Now TV.Ā Can't repeat what I said .Ā Me thinks she wont be taking him up on that offer.
Not good news re Merri, she has been to see another doctor about the problems with her legs and they have said she may need operations on hips, knees and ankles to sort it out.Ā It's a lot for a 12 year old to take on board and she keep saying she's scared she will end up in a wheelchair.Ā Upsetting for all of us.Ā Mabel's school has had a Covid outbreak (two of the children have tested positive) but luckily it isn't in her 'bubble'Ā we're just hoping it doesn't spread.Ā One of these days I'll come on here and say something positive, sorry for all the recent moaning.Ā
@P'doc, sorry to hear about the worries re your mum.Ā It's awful not being able to see them.Ā My mum's home is in Sandwell so no chance of any restrictions being lifted anytime soon.
