I had a very strong shoulder/back massage this morning as both had been playing up recently and disturbing my sleep - I might not be able to move tomorrow! Whilst I still could and while the weather was lovely, I pulled up the pelargoniums (still flowering) by the front door  and replanted with orange and purple violas for a change. Needed to be done before we go away. Later I also planted three Aster 'Monch', two in one bed and one in the other facing bed. The soil was very dry though so I had to water them well.

I knew it was folly hanging out my washing  :D
If I'd got it in when it came on, it wouldn't have been too bad, but....I didn't....
Our ground couldn't be more different to yours @Lizzie27;)
Tidy indeed @AuntyRach. Satisfying doing those jobs though.
Mr Blackie has been back at the bark, but it can just stay like that until it dries up.
Had a lucky siting earlier though - a young sparrowhawk or kestrel swooped in and landed in the conifer. Didn't get much chance to see him/her properly before he/she disappeared again. It's discovered I have lots of potential dinners in the garden methinks.
I've made banana& sultana muffins if anyone wants one. Had to use up the giraffe-y banana.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Just had a flying visit from son ... lovely to see him and he’s got the blanket for @WonkyWomble’s MIL along with a few more bits and pieces to take home with him ... he didn’t have time to stop for supper so we waved him off and sat down to our usual homemade sourdough pizzas for supper.

  • I need to bake some, normally, I make cakes for the old man to take to work every week, he retired 2 weeks ago, I made cakes during lockdown, (yes, did the planting on the sofa and growing lark) having now got rid of it, not starting again. I always used to grow Apache, have't done for a couple of years, next year then.

We had a tidying up day too @AuntyRach.  Mr C has finished the wall, but left lots of chippings and discarded bits as he went.  So we blitzed it and now all is ready for a bit of grass seed to be sown.  Very pleased with the wall - can’t believe how different it makes that part of the garden look.

I’m planning on a big session with the hose tomorrow- watering all my new plantings so that they can cope with the mini heatwave due Monday and Tuesday 😎😎😎

Just watched the Last Night of the Proms. The Lark Ascending was so beautiful. It was weird though without the audience, but they did it the best way possible, I think.

No rain in sight here yet, it's very difficult to get anything much done in the garden.
lengthy chat with son today, his wife started her chemo yesterday and has been very sick today. She has anti-sickness tablets so tried to re-assure him that if they don't work the team will change them until they find the ones that work the best. Understandably he is worried for her and not being 100% himself after the Covid makes it harder.
He said he received a call from his GP surgery to say his statins were ready at the pharmacy. Apparently the Cardios have prescribed them for him which he knows nothing about as he hasn't had an appt. lately! He asked me why he might need them. As an ex nurse I could give him some pointers but told him he must contact the cardio team next week to find out.
Hope all are well and enjoying your weekend.   :)

    Morning all/afties @Pat E if you're there.
Looking forward to seeing the finished wall and surroundings @chicky. Mr chicky has earned his corn recently  ;)
It's a terrible time for you just now @floralies. Could your son have forgotten about his prescription, what with everything going on?
Hideous day here, as forecast. Wind/rain woke me a few times and I'll need to go and pick up the pot of sweet peas. I should have tied them onto the bench yesterday. It's supposed to clear up later in the afternoon, but I'm not holding my breath. At least it was dry for a couple of hours yesterday.

A warm morning with soft sunshine.
Very best wishes to your family @floralies  ... a difficult time for you all. 🤞

@Chicky when do we get to see pictures of the finished wall and planting? Sounds like it's been a big bit satisfying project   :)
I've got 3 ornamental grasses to place and plant today.
Lidl doing fantastic grasses for £4

This is the selection they have.
Luckily being grasses,  they should survive a supermarkets usual care routine!
