    @Hostafan1, did you have to throw away any food when it failed? I think £200 would be about right.

    we had a spare in the garage, but that doesn't excuse almost 6 weeks to repair it. We pay a monthly fee for this stuff

    Oh well, in that case I'd want a refund of the monthly fees plus compensation for phone calls, your time and sheer aggravation factor. Start at £500!

    Exactly.  They aren't to know you have more than one fridge or freezer and they have a contract which they have failed to uphold.

    If @Hostafan1 has a contract with Homecare to repair his appliances then they will probably know about the spare in the garage.  However, what they will need to be informed of is that Hosta has been busy harvesting all the beens and peas and courgettes  and gooseberries and raspberries etc etc he's been growing and has been unable to freeze them for the winter ... hundreds of pounds worth of fruit and veg and months of work wasted because he couldn't preserve it.  That's right isn't it Hosta? ;)

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

    The contract only cover "named items" so the spare was never covered. 
    My lovely "complaints' manager" didn't call be back, lol
