Hope you feel better soon, @WonkyWomble. Hate sickness bugs...
Had a phone call last night from our daughter and SIL in Galway, who've just bitten the bullet and told the education authority & school that they'll be teaching their children at home... older grandchild is extremely bright but mildly autistic, and was having trouble coping at school. I think they're very brave, especially our daughter, who will be doing most of the teaching. She lost her job over the pandemic (she taught animation to school children), and they found they could survive on SIL's salary, so at least she won't feel she's putting a lucrative career on hold. The children are very excited...
The Met Eirann forecast for the next 5 days has approximately 2 hours when it WON'T be raining. We are due to be buffetted by Storm Ellen tonight so I'll be looking for more windfall apples tomorrow!
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Get well soon @WonkyWomble ... don't get dehydrated ((hugs)) 🥃
I've been up and about for a while as OH had an early start at work so I got up with him and made flasks etc. I then went out and picked yet another basketful of runner beans, several courgettes and a bowl full of tomatoes so I don't have to go out later when the rain has arrived. I've got a few bits of washing churning in the machine, but they'll probably get draped in the study.
Supper will be a courgette and sage frittata with a side dish of runner beans so not a lot of prep to do.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Hardly done anything yet apart from put a wash on and chat for an hour on the phone with daughter 1. Woke in the early hours yet again so took a Piriton and 2 Paracetamol and slept until 8.30am.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Sympathy and distanced hugs @WonkyWomble, I hope it's a quick bug.
Brave of your daughter @Liriodendron. Is there help for parents who teach? Are there local children who your grandchildren can make friends with as they won't have the social advantage of school?

I was thinking just the same @Busy-Lizzie. Good luck to your daughter and the children @Liriodendron. I hope it works well for them and there's support and networking.
Not drismal here @punkdoc. We have proper rain but not for much longer. No matter. It's an indoors day for me anyway.
Hope the bug passes soon @WonkyWomble. Very wearing I'm sure.
Must go and bottle up the next batch of passata. Have a good one everyone.

Just got back from the SM shop, a lot of holiday makers mostly French, everyone behaving and social distancing where possible. It's a beautiful day down here, the air is clear which is quite unusual at this time of the year, usually quite misty with the heat. 30 deg today and tomorrow. I hope you recover quickly @WonkyWomble - lots of fluids and rest. I think I will be making tomato soup later, but I have found some of my toms have blossom end rot despite the timed irrigation system, probably should have been on for longer in the heatwave.
Morning all/afties @Pat E. I didn't get on here [Forkers] yesterday so only had a quick skim back. Good to see your country starting to recover a bit. So much devastation. Hope you're better soon @WonkyWomble. Unpleasant. Big step @Liriodendron. Hope it all works out. My girls are both 'on the spectrum', and some elements of school were difficult for them. Good luck to them Some rough weather for us coming in the next few days too. We have a drier looking day today after the mist lifting, but still very thundery and dark. The thing that's weird is that it's very warm, which is unusual for this stage in August. Very few single fig nights yet. As soon as August starts, or certainly within the first week, there's a noticeable change in the air, and we've really not had that. Not sure what I'll do today apart from deadheading and watching the birds. The two juvie robins had a 'handbags at dawn' moment the other day. The younger one was triumphant. Cheeky wee blighter
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Yes - we had that sort of rain yesterday and Tuesday @punkdoc. Nothing unusual, but it's the temps that are. Tuesday was cool all day, but it's overnight temps that are high for the time of year which is the odd thing.

Dire predictions for the weather haven't yet materialised, though it may be worse on the coast. Just drizzly and windy here. The runner bean supports were groaning when I went out earlier, so I've picked all the veg which was pretty well ready, in case everything collapses tonight - it'll go down like a pack of cards if the wind is from the wrong direction, because the sugar peas, runner beans and sweet peas are all in parallel rows in the only available space... they're all guyed to big pegs, large lumps of rock or solid trunks of hawthorn in the hedge, so I'm hoping for the best.
Thanks, @Fairygirl, @Obelixx and @Busy-Lizzie. There's a lot of support on the Net, plus other children local to them who are home educated. Daughter has already sourced some maths materials (which the girls are already eagerly working through on their own... may not always be that simple though, I guess!), and between the parents they have a wide set of interests and skills, practical and physical as well as intellectual. Some parents buy in specialist tutors if the child shows a particular interest or aptitude which they don't share - or if a child clearly needs extra help. And they can always return to school later if they want to. As far as friends are concerned, socialising will take a bit more planning, but will still be done... they like Brownies, go to dancing, and live on an estate with a lot of young children. Older GD will need a bit of pushing to make friends though.
