That's a relief for you @Yviestevie, but annoying the eyes are still playing up. Must go and get ready - we're invited for lunch with friends about an hour away - hopefully socially distanced outside on their new decking but it's a bit cloudy here.
Just come in for some hydration - its boiling out there 🥵. Seems like we are all getting different weather today. We seem to be forecast rain overnight ....Just the way I like it.
Just booked in for another couple of garden visits on Wednesday - 2 quite close together. Am dragging Mr C along to these ones.
Glad your eye problem is nothing serious Yvie ....annoying just the same.
We enjoyed our lunch out with friends today, on a sloping garden, their new decking gives them a far bigger socialising space. We admired their new patio awning as well which might well work for us (we face south as well). It had a side winding pole so even I could manage it!
Went to dentist son at lunchtime about my broken tooth. My gum had grown into the broken bit and was swollen. He had to cut the excess gum off, it bled a lot, and do a crown prep. Fine under the LA, he's very good at injections, but it wore off this afternoon, been very sore.
Have been weedkilling and watering and my good friend who dealt with my dying horse came round for a chat.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Oooh @Busy-Lizzie 😢 I hope the soreness wears off quickly.
We got lots done today ... OH cut grass, did edges, swept and tidied the terrace ‘weeded’ the pond and then put a stepladder at the top of the Shady Bank and cut the Lonicera Graham Thomas hard back. It’s a shame to lose the berries as the birds love them but it was getting far too big, reaching up into the ash tree as well as billowing out over the bank in a rather top-heavy way. We have three other honeysuckles in the garden so there’ll still be lots of berries.
We found a little dunnock’s nest in amongst the twining stems (not in use now) ... I’d suspected there might’ve been one there as I’d seen a dunnock pottering around the bank and going up into the honeysuckle earlier in the year.
I cut back perennials, summer-pruned the espaliered pear and the vine, tied in the tomatoes and fed and watered squashes, courgettes, tomatoes, fig, cannas etc, etc, etc ... and lots of weeding of course ... no wonder I need an early night ... Sleep tight folks 😴
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Broke the lawnmower again. I do use it to tackle stuff it wasn't intended for but I am still annoyed because it is a stupid design flaw. The lower deck is plastic and it carries the rear axle so supports the weight of the whole machine. As there is no steering on those types of mowers there is far too much stress on the mounting point for the rear wheels when manoeuvring so it eventually breaks. I can fix it if I can get the parts but it is about 25 years old now. Oh well, better get the Flymo out instead.
