...here is a trick I have to play with large pots.. ...I have this deep, blue ceramic pot, which I cannot lift or barely move... but I like to put something in it... well, a rose of course, although I did have a pot of daffs earlier..
..I also have lots of 20 ltr heavy duty black plastic pot, lightweight, which I grow roses in.. these are weatherproof and good for 2 seasons for a potted rose..
..so... ..brick in base to give some elevation to the pot.. ..a 20 ltr black pot... I found that it fits perfectly in the blue one.. ...like so.. ...outside my front door, a very sunny area, so nice for a potted rose.. I can easily lift this one in and out when required..
@Marlorena ... thank you ... I think that ‘wider’ could be accommodated ... theres a foot or so between the bench and the fence so perhaps we could encourage Cornelia to ‘ramble’ into that gap and ‘masquerade’ as a climber? 😉
I love the Hesperis with your Cornelia .., that’s the sort of combination we were thinking of ... we already have Clematis ‘Betty Corning’ against that fence 😊
Do you know that one? I’ve never knowingly seen it except online. Do you know if it’s in the rose garden down the A11 from here ... or at Mannington Hall maybe?
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
@Dovefromabove ...no, I don't have Baby Faurax and never seen it... not at Mannington when I last went.. maybe at Peter Beales gardens which I think are near enough to you? a visit for another time perhaps... but I think it's a good colour combination with a lighter pink rose...
Yes ... when al this madness subsides and the new normal makes a trip down the road to Peter Beales’ for roses and coffee on a sunny day a possibility instead of a daydream, perhaps then I can get to know Baby Fauraux ... otherwise I’ll just have to order it and cross my fingers 🤞 Thank you @ Marlorena 😊

..this is Parahebe 'Avalanche'.. one of my favourite edging plants... it's evergreen and flowers for a long time, into autumn and winter... there is a blue form 'Porlock' which I also have.. no idea about hardiness, but I've had them for several years here.. ...what else I like about them is that they are so easy to strike from cuttings, and you get 100 percent take... they all root without fail.. you can either cut a piece and place straight into the ground, or pot it up..
..I planted this one last October and it rooted through winter... ...these cuttings I took in early Spring, just a few weeks ago...
...such wonderful plants, and so useful... great for children too I think, if they want to try their hands at a bit of gardening and get involved, as they can see results fairly quickly...
I thought you might Mary, in fact when I bought it, I said to myself.. Mary will like this rose.. ..it's opened out today, so bee friendly too.. and with a pleasant scent.. a frilly rose.. its parent 'Augusta Luise' is called 'Rachel' here, named after Rachel de Thame, the GW presenter and has more pink in it... I prefer this colour, more yellow, on Aquarell though.. however, not to everyone's taste and you don't have to like it..
@Marlorena Did you say you grow Marie Pavie, the dwarf polyantha? It’s actually on my wish list mainly because it’s supposedly suitable for pots/treated as patio rose and has a strong scent? Do you have any pictures of it and what’s your view in terms of vigor/health and scent?
'Bathsheba' on obelisk with clematis 'Burma Star'... I replaced The Generous Gardener with this rose as I preferred the scent, colour and growth habit.. all personal taste.. I like the way Stipa gigantea is lit by the sun early this morning.. a rather wind bedraggled Geranium himalayense 'Gravetye' in front... ..this strongly scented, wonderful yellow rose is sold by Trevor White's as either 'Lolabelle', the name I bought it as, or 'Lois'... I'll say no more on that but it's a really good rose this one..
...hope everyone is having some nice weather... not much else to do at the moment..

Im also trying to make room for a small rose across the pathway opposite Cornelia. I’m very tempted by the gorgeous colour of R. ‘Baby Fauraux’
