'Scepter'd Isle' is one of DA's most fragrant roses, up there with the very best in my noses opinion... it's also a great rose overall, except it can suffer from fungal diseases in the canes, although the foliage is generally healthy and without blemish.. but I've noticed this Spring a deterioration in my rose, less blooms, paler colour and less vigour..
...this is probably why.. fungal disease in a main cane, what looks like stem canker.. as long as it doesn't totally encircle the cane, it's usually ok... however I will cut this out I think, after the first flush.. ..it's the cane on the right, and I will cut back to that new shoot, and I can see I have a number of new shoots coming from the base, so all will be well there in time..
@Mary370 ...whilst I haven't needed to do it with this rose, a good root stimulant works well for me, one that contains seaweed extract... I use one called Maxicrop and it does seem to do the job..
...just a few evening photos.. 'Zephirine Drouhin' 'Gabriel Oak'.. looking more pink than I'm used to this early in the season, last year I got this colour in July.. lovely scent.. 'Munstead Wood'..
'Gabriel Oak'.. more true to colour today... just love this rose and its scent... sometimes the centre is more red in cooler conditions.. 'Eustacia Vye'.. even at this stage the scent intoxicates me, and I wish I had 6 of this rose... as I rob it of all its blooms.. I have some nice shoots from the base too.. 'Ghislaine de Feligonde' in the strong sun today... 'Wild Rover'.. clove scented and climbs... also known as 'Harry Potter'... 'Aquarell'... this frilly beauty, depending on taste.. still going after 6 days.. ..reminds me of 'Peace'... in this picture..
Thanks for the additional info on Blush Noisette Marlorena, I recall reading that on HMF, in fact, I am sure it was your comment! Shouldn’t be a problem where I am thinking of putting it, room to shake...
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
...jolly good.. I thought I might have mentioned it before...
..'Wilhelm'.. ..I like white Foxgloves with Old Roses... I don't have as many this year.. ..a Geranium walk.. ..'Russell Prichard'.. flowers till late autumn.. English Lavenders are out early too.. this is angustifolia No. 9.. one you will see in Lavender fields grown for its oils..
..another blazing sunny day... not overly hot, but sun all the way... real drought going on for many of us and it's a struggle to keep new roses going..
'Eustacia Vye'... one of the best Austins of recent times I think.. I can't wait for this rose to take off.. it had replant syndrome last year.. ... semi shady border... 'Scented Garden'... 'Scepter'd Isle' further along..
Mary, I bet you're going to like this rose... it reminds me a bit of your lost label rose I saw on the other thread... it also has a divine scent, really sweet... ...this is 'Liverpool Hope'.. I've been waiting for this bud to fully open, surely it will be tomorrow.. 'Octavia Hill'.. a Harkness rose, and good for front of border.. needs little attention and always healthy.. not much scent, just a good bedding rose.. 'Chawton Cottage'.. another Harkness rose, and I'm liking this one very much... really nice glossy foliage too.. and a light musky scent... Hulthemia hybrid.. a climber.. 'Anne Boleyn' with penstemons..
Yes I do Marorena........I think I've enough HTs now, I have about 12. Going to start my new list for 'open' flowered Rose's similar to Cahwton Cottage above. I've really like the look of the Eye of the Tiger? bi coloured roses, I must look into them in more detail.
