Apparently the minimum pricing law in Scotland lead to people drinking a dram less of whisky a week on average. Seems like they could have made an exception for their own produce. Double the tax on Buckfast instead.

@wild edges   it makes so much sense to legalise drugs and tax them. Remove the power from the violent dealers and raise Tax revenue to increase funding for policing, social work, education, youth clubs and health. 🤷‍♀️

Not a lot of common sense in politics and when there is some another will come along and tweak it so it's unworkable.

Always impressed by how cheap whisky and malts were in my usual Belgian SM - good range of the latter too - but don't like it so only ever bought as gifts or for guests known to like a tipple.  It's taken a while but I have now realised that French wines are not made for "international" cooking and don't do well with my "cuisine" and even mild spicing.  French chauvinism means the range of foreign wines is limited and inconsistently stocked.   Who knew Morocco made good rosé?   Bit of a find.

Controversial I know, but I think most affordable New World wine is superior to French wine at a similar price point.

Totally disagree on that. Would always drink French or Italian, given the choice.

I find a minerally rosé from the South of France very hard to beat.

not that I've drunk any wine in over 4 years, but we always had Shiraz from OZ or Sauvignon Blanc from NZ . But then again: neither of us were that fussy , lol
