Hmm ... raining again ... don’t think I’ll be pricking out on the terrace ... probably pasty making instead ...

    Morning all/afties Pat.
Just catching up with this thread. So sorry about your news @Yviestevie. Nothing you can do, and that's what's so horrible. The helplessness.
Perhaps all the people who still can't grasp the reality of all this, should take a good hard look in the mirror, and be made to read all the stories, everywhere, about what's happening to ordinary people, all over the world. Like the stupid boy who ran straight between me and another lady yesterday, after we had both moved to the sides of the lane we were on.Ā Ā
Hope you can get some better news soon too @punkdoc.Ā
Went out at 8 after taking fairylet to work, and fortunately, the wet and cold has kept some of the idiots indoors. I did laugh at the two rather large people I saw, who had very new outfits and trainers on. I reckon that, until a couple of weeks ago, those outfits were still decorating the inside of JDSports. Hopefully some of these people will keep getting out and exercising, but I wonder how many charity shops will get an influx of 'sportswear' as soon as the lockdown endsĀ  :D
Not sure what I can do today, other than pop the water lily into it's new home. The coping edge on top will have to wait. I'm certainly not making 'a trip' to B&Q for timber.Ā
Might sow the wildflower seeds. Some of the ones I sowed last year germinated, and are already in.Ā

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Morning all.
Has been drizzling but now the sun is trying to come out.

I'm so sorry about your Mum, @Yviestevie . I hope she is being well cared for and is comfortable. Such a worry for you.

I've had a good chat on the phone with daughter 2 for over an hour. She had sent me a video of her small son, 1 in March, walking and looking very pleased with himself.

I bet that was lovely to watch @Busy-Lizzie. I always think the years between 1 and 5 are the most interesting and joyous to watch, little children develop so fast with new skills they learn almost daily.

Well, I've been a very profligate A....n customer todayĀ  - I've bought a rat box and bait.Ā  What fun!Ā  Yesterday, I watched what I thought were two squirrels chasing each other across the front terrace, then realized the tail was different on the last one. EEEK
The terrace is right next to the house so too close for comfort and although I've already got a bait box down, the rats are being fussy and not eating their 'special' food! I'm going back to the cheesy 'cakes' as I think they worked better the first time we had a problem. Fingers crossed.

    Pasties madeĀ

... of course, as soon as I was past the point of no return with the pastry-making the sun came out and it would’ve been lovely out there on the terrace, playing with seedlings, pots and compost. As soon as the pasties came out of the oven the heavens opened again. šŸ˜‚Ā

We have had a wet day so far too tho it seems to be drying up now.Ā  Ā Apart from waking up with a raging thirst a couple of times I thought I'd slept well last night but clearly needed more so didn't surface till after midday.Ā  Ā No bounce in Obxx today.

I do hope things improve for you @punkdoc and @Yviestevie and anyone else with Covid worries especially those working in the NHS and other essential jobs.

France seems to be announcing a relaxing of lockdown from the 11th and has said schools can go back but with a maximum of 15 per class.Ā  No-one has suggested how schools should manage this or how they're going to enforce a 1m distance or stop small people hugging each other.Ā  And then there's the whole mask thing - who supplies, where they should be worn, who replaces them..........

Those who can work from home must continue and, in any case, cafés, bars, restaurants will remain closed so @D0rdogne_Damsel still has time to paint her kitchen.  It's May Day on Friday and florists may sell the traditional sprig of Lily of the Valley to offer to loved ones for luck.

  • I'm like you @Dovefromabove, in and out all day, it's getting on my nerves now. I am trying to rescue plants from a soon to be extension to the 'lawn', perfect conditions to move them really except when it does rain it pours and I don't want to get soaked through. I've given up for now.Ā  :/

The seedlings in the g/h are still a bit too small to pot onĀ  so I gave up with that idea too.Ā  :/

I sent 3 e-mails/messages to various people about things to do with the Tearoom and no-one has responded, so I am fed up with that as well, so all in all I am not in a great mood.Ā

Too late now to start stripping the kitchen @Obelixx, in fact I keep putting it off, very daunting. The forecast is rain tomorrow so I am going to try and motivate myself. So difficult to find that motivation without any idea of what's going to happen to the Tearoom and when. Luckily our mairie is being very supportive, but it isn't possible to make any decisions at the moment. There is talk of plexiglass between tables, only accepting people with advanced reservations, limits on group numbers, staff wearing masks, all very difficult. I really need my new terrace and the one thing I can't seem to get an answer about is the planning permission - earliest response will be June....all very frustrating.Ā

Anyway, moan over. I hope you are all having a better day. :)

I have found some plants in the garden, that may well be weeds, but are covered in blue flies: Has anyone any idea what they are? Thanks for any advice in advance.

Good afternoon folk,s love and hugs from me to all those with health problems, my eldest daughter is now isolated at home with classic symptoms, one of her friends Husbands has been in ITU for over 3 weeks now.Ā  Didnt get chance to log on this morning, was told they had flour in Lidl, nope, all gone, have been told to get there at 7 am tomorrow.Ā  Made a tart with the asparagus Hubby picked.

Pasties look scrumptious Dove, I could eat one right now.
@Nanny Beach sorry to hear about your daughter, hope she gets better soon.
@Obelixx, that doesn't sound at all like you, connected to the toothache perhaps?
@DOrdogne _Damsel, sorry, can't identify that plant. You'll get there eventually with the Tearoom, just got to hang on in there.

Just heard, Boris is a daddy - again! A bit early ? I thought it was due early summer but of course that could have been a smokescreen. I always thought it much easier to give a due date 2 more weeks on to stop all the endless enquiries.

Looks like they were trying to cover up the fact that baby was conceived while he was still married to someone else ... being a hypocrite again ... why not just be open about it šŸ™„

Best wishes to your family @Nanny Beach Ā ... hope your daughter is soon fit again. ((Hugs))
