This is on my ‘Must have wherever I move’ rose list. Speaking of, what’s on everyone else’s list, and why?
I think it would be PAoK, even though she defoliates from blackspot, I love her and she started my rose addiction. If I move to a house with a bigger garden one day, I will plant three of them together and let it grow huge.
And Scarborough Fair. So pretty and so reliable. I would love to have an informal hedge of it one day.
I love this thread. I've got a shortlist of "roses we must try" when the jungle (17 years of neglect) is tamed and I've got a Plan. Meanwhile, we have just the one rose in flower (I brought cuttings of a few, and a seedling Rosa glauca, from Yorkshire but they're tiny). It's a wild dog rose, in the hedge... lovely delicate scent and so beautiful...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Well done Adrian. I'm not sure I've ever seen so many likes on a set of photos.
celcius_kkw - It gives us all hope to grow great roses in tricky circs. I think that is also the best use of plastic grass I have seen. High up a tower block is a good place for it. I hope your balony is well re-inforced to support the weight of planters, earth and water. My aunt has had a run in with the freeholders of her block over growing plants and the weight on her balcony. They think it might buckle. x
Comte de Chambord, finally! Last year (its first year) it balled badly and struggled overall, this year it’s doing much better but still quite small at maybe 2’ tall. But this gives me hope that it’s finally coming into its own. We have rain forecasted from tomorrow onwards so we’ll see how it holds up after the rain.
I know we have been talking about variable rates of growth in their roses, especially new ones, and I saw Marlorena’s post about RRD demonstrated by her Country Parson.
Mine have been very interesting to watch - Some of the ones planted in March have by now caught up and overtaken ones planted in November.
A while back I was saying how Gabriel Oak was very far behind and stunted. Well it’s now grown well and has buds on. Meanwhile Eustacia Vye, which was planted at the same time, had been growing much faster but seems to have just stopped. I’ve not seen any noticeable growth in weeks! So it’s like they’ve swapped.
Good colour mixes in your last photos @Mr. Vine Eye, nice planting
Thank you!
Up until a week ago there was too much purple everywhere! I’ve obviously at some point thought - “Oh there’s not enough purple in the garden, so I’ll buy this” - but I’ve ended up with nothing but purple at least at this time of year 😅

I especially liked that balcony sunset roses photo @celcius_kkw - gorgeous.
Heres some evening photos from me:
Royal Jubilee - flowers are much more petal filled than last year. Alliums, Salvia Mainacht, geranium Wargrave Pink.
