Wonderful to see all that new growth, @Mr. Vine Eye.

I am also enjoying ‘self isolation’ time in the garden, seeing all my roses coming back into leaf and monitoring progress of my new bare root roses. I am intrigued to see how this Munstead Wood bud turns out, keep trying to get a clearer picture, but it has leaves cradling it instead of normal sepals, don’t know whether anyone can see this and has any clues as to why it’s a bit weird:

    @Marlorena

Neither can I! I bought a pack of them (bulbs) from Aldi the autumn before last to grow in front of some fruit cordons which I've now moved to the allotment and these I thought would have been lost as the whole area got dug up. But there's lots of them growing and starting to flower.

I just can't remember the name!

EDIT: found them online! Chionodoxa or Glory of the snow

Chionodoxa…. ahh yes.. they spread but rather pretty.. I thought they were over by now which puzzled me..
Nice to have an allotment... roses love allotments too, lots of wide open sunny places.. I tried to get one here but waited too long and gave up..

@Nollie .. that's quite normal, especially on these types of roses.. I see quite a lot of it, as I search my photos for an example and cannot find one..  nice sepals !..

..this isn't MW but just to compare...

That’s where the cutting ones will go.

I was very surprised, offered a plot less than a month after sending in the form, despite being told there was a waiting list. Didn’t like the one they offered and so had my pick of three others! Chose the largest but most overgrown. There’s still a few vacant plots now.

As I have things on order that haven't come yet, and this was probably my last trip out for some time, I only went for compost, I ended up getting these.

As they were only £4 each, with 20% off even if they don't end up doing what I wanted it's not much of a loss. To me they appear to be iceburg climbing rose but dont have a name on the label. They are in bags of compost, if I just water and keep them in the greenhouse how long do you think they will last before being needed to be planted out. 😁

Oh, thanks @Marlorena, they just seemed so much bigger than usual, like proper leaves, but good to know it’s normal. Looks like MW is going to be the first to flower, but LD Braithwaite and Darcy Bussell also have buds, so who knows.

I am hoping for a cooler summer than last, this year, so I might get more blooms for longer, but also hoping my new rose bed in the cooler east-facing garden will be good and the heat-tolerant rose research that informed my purchases pays off.

Love this time of year, such a joy to see things popping up, all that promise!

@Marlorena Thank you for the advice. When I looked closer at the lady M’s foliage it did cross my mind as to whether it’s rust. I’m not sure if my tap water is ‘hard’ but if it is what could I do to soften it?

And youve got a veey very keen eye indeed! That little green shoot has caught my attention but I forgot to ask you but you’ve spotted it anyway ha!

Basically my balcony is now full, there’s still a spot vacant but it’s the most windy and exposed area and precious roses did not do well there. I had to try very hard to refrain myself from ordering more roses as it wouldn’t be fair on them to be placed in that spot.. therefore I’ve decided to try to grow some other plants in smaller containers that can be slotted in between my roses, and the lavender will eventually go in that windy spot given they’re meant to be wind tolerant.. it really is quite a challenge creating my balcony garden in this micro climate..

@Mr. Vine Eye what wonderful foliage pics you’ve got there! They look absolutely gorgeous!

@Nollie looks like you’ll be the first among us to have the first bloom of the season! I’m so excited for you!
