@Jason-3   nice bloom Jason... I did say nothing to worry about did I not ?...

@Mr. Vine Eye  ..consider a packet of seeds for your Alchemilla.. they're easy to grow, as they seed all over the place..

Nollie does look like it grew towards the light, as if it was shaded at the back either by another plant or was placed up against something. I think your idea is a good one.

@Marlorena - neat! I’ll have a look. I’ve grown most of my plants from seed or division/cuttings. Just added it to the basket as it was so cheap!

@Marlorena and @Omori, thanks! It did seem logical to orient the bare side toward the sun but wasn’t sure, so I will definitely do that. It came like that, so maybe it was shaded in the growing fields. I guess one just does get the odd one from time to time.

@Nollie, I moved and turned my La Belle Rouge for exactly this reason (shown on page 64 in her new position, on page 1 in the old position). It has much longer canes and more buds on one side. I think it's good to turn pots occasionally, cheating the plant :)
  • Good evening all, I hope you're doing OK in these strange and unusual times. I'm making the most of the time to nail down my garden plans, and I'm hoping to make use of the expertise on here to reduce planning errors :).
We've just had the wood delivered for a long rose pergola. The posts will be nearly 8 feet apart - I'm planning a climbing rose for each post, my hubby reckons that'll be over planting. Does anyone have any guidance for me?
If it helps, I'm looking at the following roses
    Eden Rose
    Guinee
    Desprez à Fleurs Jaunes
    Constance Spry
    Veilchenblau
    Alchymist
    Claire Austin
    Shropshire Lass
    The Generous gardener
    Wollerton Old Hall

Any notes on growing these roses/ better alternatives / any other guidance would be much appreciated!

Re: A. mollis, I just found this seedling a good 12 feet away. Looking a little rain and mud splattered but they just pop up by themselves so I think you should fare well with the seeds, MVE.

Looks beautiful Marlorena, you should see the state of my gravel path, more gravel piled up the sides than actually in the path, thanks to a certain rampaging Labrador...

Marlorena, you could teach small space gardening, your creative use of space is inspiring.
Mr. Vine Eye, I removed tons of alchemilla from our previous (rented) garden, I just hate that stuff and consider it weed. (Un)fortunately I don't have any now, if I had some, I would happily send it to you.
