    Has anyone any experience of growing 'Chianti', a DA rose. Trevor White suggests it's a tall shrub, but more importantly, says it's shade tolerant.

    ..wider than tall, but rather nice...  I hope you have room @peteS
    [my pictures, but not my garden unfortunately].. 'Chianti' at Mannington..

    ..incidentally, just a bit of potted history, this rose when first introduced was called 'Kashmiri' by David Austin.. but a few years later when he formed his English Rose designation, he changed the name... probably something to do with more people going on holidays to southern Europe at the time [1970], wine familiarity and suchlike.. just speculation on my part there..

    @Mr. Vine Eye
    ...it's a prolific bloomer all things considered for a first season rose, it just flowers non stop no matter what,  but it hasn't grown much for me so far, and this may be due to rose replant, I think most likely...  so I can't offer enough to recommend it at this stage..   I'm really looking forward to it next season though, I'm sure it'll take off then..

    ...are you thinking of getting one?...

  • It was one that was on my maybe list at one point. I’d like another very deep pink or red to go near Lady of Shalott and Emily Bronte - will keep an eye out for the new releases too.

    That's very nice. I would love to go to a garden with nicely pruned roses in winter to see and appreciate their structure and gardener's skill.

    No one in my family would be remotely interested, so all such things are my retirement plans which is many years away.

    @Marlorena...I've got the room if it can tolerate very very light shade, with reflective light with no sun...if not, alas I wouldn't have the room. Lovely looking rose though.
