Yes keep them, you may get some basal growth. Your soil looks like it could do with a bit of love. Has it been amended at all? Also I would give your roses a drink as the soil looks very dry?
The soil was originally covered with brambles, I've been digging in compost to try to improve it. We're really close to the sea so it's quite sandy and free-draining.
@tristan.burt Yes I agree with the others, do keep them.. however I'd like to ask a question... the other DA roses you got that you say are doing well, were they also planted where brambles were growing? if so, are you pleased with them so far?.. ... the reason I ask is because wild blackberries - Rubus - are in the same family as Roses - Rosaceae - which means that if you replant roses where other members of the same family have been growing for a long time, i.e. roses, apples, blackberries, pyracantha etc.. they can get what is called 'rose replant sickness'... it's possible that your two roses there are suffering from this..
If that is the case, and they do look rather weak, you will have to wait until they recover, which can take some time... when you get your replacement roses, I recommend that you plant them in fresh ground where the brambles were not growing...
Marlorena thank you, yes they are growing where the brambles used to be. The other roses which are doing really well are not where the blackberries used to be, so that makes sense. Thanks for your advice.
Good growth on the roses so far! Still a bit behind most people on here in terms of buds but that’s expected where I live. Still looking like being an early start to flowering for me compared to last year!
My Gabriel Oak is still looking way behind the others. If he’s not careful, he’s going to be caught up by the ones planted in March even though he had a 4 month head start!
Ordered from the Secret Gardening Club just now. Found one of the other grasses that you recommended Marlorena! (or at least close to it)
Thats a lot of plants for £30 with free delivery. I’m impressed. Wish I’d checked here first as they had a couple of the plants that I ordered from Claire Austin burn for half the price that I paid.
This was prompted by our morning walk, went past lots of centaurea and immediately thought I had to order some - Added some more things to get free delivery and then everything else just sort of fell into the basket!
Whole garden got a good drenching this morning with the hose. Water butt ran dry last week. Last time I checked there was rain forecast for Saturday night into Sunday, much needed! So hopefully won’t have to water again for a bit.
Some nice plants @Mr. Vine Eye .. watch those Knautias, they can seed about a bit.. I was going to order from Secret Garden but have not done so this year.. I did order last year quite a few, and was pleased with most, one or two were rather small, and I think I lost one somewhere along the line... but they have a good selection, I'm going to take another look at their offers today..
@Daniel Rutherford some of yours are ahead of mine Daniel.. what do you think of Dame Judi Dench? mine is about the same as yours, but those huge hooked thorns are quite scary..
@Nollie .. how is Burgundy Ice doing for you? mine is still a bit spindly but it doesn't get the best of the sun..
