Talking of wind.. I’m getting 30mph gale on my 8th floor balcony.. I decided to take my Munstead Wood and yellow HT blooms in as cut flowers as they are now 3 days old and I don’t think they will survive otherwise.
I couldn’t resist taking a picture of Boscobel though as its now in full bloom.. it’s in the most sheltered spot on my balcony so I hope it will survive this crazy wind.. still couldn’t resist taking a picture..
@Mr. Vine Eye ..your Malvern is looking really good , I miss that rose... ...thanks for remembering to take the photo.. I wonder if you could do me another one perhaps another day with less glare?.. but don't worry if you can't, it's not important.. I can't quite see from your image there... I'm looking at the centre.. what I want to see is this below, where I've put an arrow - this is on another rose of course.. post it to my 'Notes' thread if you like.. thanks, … the styles on Malvern may be different to this, I would have expected them to be the same, but your photo is making me think they are not..
...just looking back at all the lovely roses... Rhapsody in Blue - wow ! ..my Eustacia isn't out yet and my dog knocked off most of the buds..
Rhapsody in Blue, Desdemona and Eustacia Vye seem to amongst the most popular at the moment, judging by all the photos.
Just looked out of my window (it's still very blustery here) and noticed the first bloom on my Claire Austin is pink. It's normally white with a lemon tinge inside. Strange! Funnily enough I had to replace some years ago a White Flower Carpet rose nearby because it kept coming out pink. It clashed horribly with the yellow privet hedge behind it so it had to go! The replacement one has stayed white thank goodness.
Hi, loved reading this thread even if it took two days! I’m quite an amateur gardener having only got a garden late last summer however love roses and currently have 6 roses.
Here is Claire Austin, I planted her last August. I haven’t trained her against the wall very well at all and just looks a bit sad looking/a bit of a mess. Do you guys think I should persevere or move her to the back garden? I didn’t realise the level of complication of trying to get a climbing rose to go up an inner corner. And is this a sucker? It appears to be growing from the top of the root bud so I don’t think it is?

my Claire gave me these pink flowers in April before flowering the true white flowers that she should be.
@Marlorena Not at all!! I’ve just been on my balcony for the fifth time today being all worried about my roses and I was devastated to find a large sized cane from my lady Emma Hamilton has snapped... and it’s got at least four buds at the top. I decided to cut it in half and put in a pot to try to make the best of the situation.. I hope they survive. I also spotted a thin-ish cane from Lady of Shallot flopping very precariously in the gale force wind so I tied it to a stake ‘just in case’.. otherwise I will end up with more cuttings than I can manage. Two more days to go before calm returns.. I will have to say an extra prayer for my roses tonight 😔
