    @Lizzie27, yes I saw the photo of your beautiful Penelope a few pages back. Mine is not there yet in terms of splendour but I can see it has potential and I do like to see a plant that just gets on with things without making a fuss.

    The wind has snapped the tip off its wildest cane, I notice this morning, it probably got bashed against my railings. My current plan, always subject to change, is to team it with a Chianti at the front of my house. I thought they would look well together.

    I really like that photo of your Albertine with the sun and the tree trunk @micearguers

    Ill be popping out early to see what I can do to help things before the storm winds start again. Assess the damage. I’m hoping that the Generous Gardener cane has just been pushed in an awkward position and hasn’t actually snapped!!

    @B3 @Lizzie27

    Thank you both for MM she is lovely little rose. I grew it in a pot at the old house. I forgot to mention that any rose that goes in needs to a good size, as the space is fairly large and the rest of the plants are fairly mature.
    My concern with MM is that if I recall she is quite a dainty little thing. But I only ever grew her in a large pot. Let me know your experience re size etc

    @Daniel Rutherford, yes I have Darcy Bussell, terrible blackspot, but I find the canes are generally strong. I think you have just been very unlucky and a fierce gust caught it badly. I love the blooms and the way they are held upright rather than nodding.

    @WorcesterPark, sorry I realised I forgot to acknowledge your reply pages back now, re Super Trouper! Thanks, I look forward to hearing how it does for you.

  • Just done a morning inspection after the winds, no really major damage. Loads of buds on my climbing rose. Some starting to open. Hopefully the winds calm down so I can get a better shot!

    My MM are about 4 or 5 ft tall and as mentioned before, not in ideal conditions so I'm not sure how big they'd get with proper care. The RHS site will give you dimensions

    This says 1 metre. Mine must be growing higher to get above the acer leaves
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • Thanks @nollie it’s just my front garden of which had darcey Bussell in is quite open and so winds affect it more but their are a lot of roses in the garden, some of which are get pushed about a lot more yet darcey is the only one that has almost defoliated and lost nearly all the buds whereas it’s only bits and pieces off other roses!!

    it must be one of the worst DA roses in wind cause it’s been so badly affected!!

    That’s interesting @Daniel Rutherford, never experienced that with mine, but it is perhaps in a more sheltered location and maybe that’s what it needs. Blackspotted leaves will whip off more quickly as they are ready to drop anyway, but that doesn’t explain the buds. I do wish this rose was healthier, as I so love the blooms. If it’s not working for you, though, maybe it’s time to hoik it out.

    Funny how the photos make it look like a lovely calm sunny day when in reality the wind is strong enough to blow you over 😝

    @purplerallim I just bought Celebration, love the different shades, yours looks beautiful and so cheery.
