Hi @AlliumPurpleSensation, great to see some colour on your roses, but isn’t Arthur Bell yellow?

I have been waiting nearly two weeks for this bud of The Prince to open, from first showing a bit of colour, just damn well open please!

Yes it is yellow but the very outer leaves on each bud have a hint of red.

Oops, thought I was mixing it up with another rose! Interestingly, The Prince buds started out redder but have now darkened, but will probably turn pink in the summer.

Thank you @Mr Vine Eye and @Marlorena. I still have some tonic left, so when is the right time to give it to the roses (I promise I won’t do foliage spraying)?

My youngest is coming on a lot at the moment with speaking. One of his clearest words at the moment is ‘rose!’

Haha, no coaching at all he’s just picked it up. Very proud 😄

I wanted to share a recording of him saying it but it won’t let me post an mp3 file

@Sammymummy ... I think your tonic is only meant as a foliar feed, so you best not apply any more right now, but wait until your roses have recovered and then use a lower strength amount, but it's not a product I use, so I don't know what the instructions are that come with it..  I think Adrian here uses it, maybe he can help on this..

..you've fed your roses with fertilizer already, so that will do until mid June then you can feed again...

...overfeeding roses is a common mistake and we all do it.. I do as well... I'm not a plant pathologist but I think that's what's happened there... dry weather exacerbates the problem unfortunately..

My roses are still a ways off but last year’s ‘Double You’ tulips have come up again, and to keep on the rose topic, in the background are Lady Emma Hamilton (left) and Goldfinch (right) that I’m training up the brick shed.

  • Hi, Hoping for some advice please. I purchased a number of bare root roses from David Austin in the autumn, most are growing very well with lots of shoots. However, these two, "Maigold" and "A Shropshire Lad" do not have as many shoots. I've contacted DA who are going to replace them. Is it worth persevering with these two?  It's the first time I've grown roses so not too sure what to expect. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Certainly keep them if you’ve got space for them.

That first one looks like it has fearsome thorns!
