My Ispahan,(Pompon des Princes) at it's best right now, but lots more buds to come. According to my Rose Book, this is a Damask rose, origin unknown but before 1832, possibly Persian in view of its name. Supposed to be 5ft x 4ft but mine's now about 8- 10 years old, at least 6ft and completely covering my rose arch and growing into the Magnolia Stellata next to it. Vigorous, easy, fairly blackspot resistant, not very thorny, throws up long canes. I can thoroughly recommend it. Only drawback it doesn't repeat well if at all but quite a long main flush.
Long expected 'James Veitch', the opening photo is from yesterday and the second one from today. We had rain on Monday night, some petals rotted and some crisped in today's strong sun. I am still happy about the rain, it was much needed. A lovely button eye and quite a nice fragrance. DA describes the fragrance as strong, HMF as mild, I would say medium so far.
Finally a nice bloom from 'Eyes for You'. The previous four or five blooms never opened fully. I love the colour and the shading on this rose.
'Princess Alexandra of Kent', huge and warm-coloured.
'Belle de Crécy', a gallica rose. Pretty but everything catches in it (dandelion seeds, aphids...)
The new border in the front garden. 'Eyes for You' in bloom, 'Olivia Rose Austin' on the right soon to follow. 'Purple Skyliner' in the middle, nowhere near flowering yet.
And clematis 'Liberty' with a tiny snail as a bonus.
Love that clematis Liberty @edhelka and your two purples above, James Veitch and Blackberry Nip. I see the latter is related to Burgundy Ice. How is its growth habit, does it have a nice shape?
I got a refund from my son's cancelled school trip and used the money very wisely- I ordered Gabriel Oak and Eustachia Vye from DA ! Gabriel Oak potted rose was showing as sold out a couple of days ago, seems to be back in stock now.
@Victoria Sponge Thank you. Blackberry Nip is a hybrid tea, 'Deep Secret' x 'Old Port'. I have it in a pot and it was planted in autumn, so too young to judge. I really like the fragrance.
