In case of anyone wanting to order DA roses, today's the last day for the 15% with the order code EYA. Just saw it in my mail so thought I'd bring it up here.
My C.Claire Austin does ok here and always looks healthy. The inwardly curving petal shape does predispose them to balling but I don't remember a big problem last year. Similarly with blackspot.
I've not grown Claire Austin.. I always hear mixed reports about it.. Nice pics @Mr. Vine Eye again.. so clear, I'm quite envious .. photography is so important to me, I really ought to get a better camera... what variety of Malus are you growing?..
Vanessa Bell has such wonderful sepals, very leafy.. ..by the way, your paint brush [I use one too] missed an aphid or two...
I think your photos are great, you’ve got a really nice style, very recognisable. As I said I recognised a photo on Helpmefind being yours straight away, without having seen the name.
@Mr. Vine Eye ..thank you.. that reminds me to post pics to HMF, I've not done so for a while... ..I use a Sony Cybershot 10.1 mega pixels.. whatever that means.. I upload them to Sony Play Memories, which is an application one downloads... and then wherever else I want to post them to.. ..the only editing I do is that I might narrow the shot... I have properties and neighbours cars getting in the way sometimes... ...I'd like to try a macro shot, it does take close ups but I don't think I can get one to see those 'glands' etc... it starts to blurr out, so will leave those to you.
Mine’s a Pentax K20D - nearly 12 years old now so it’s not got some of the fancy features of more recent cameras but I like the photos it takes. Pentax cameras are built like tanks and fully weather sealed which is great. I dropped it from shoulder height on to concrete a few weeks ago but you can’t tell - Fortunately!!
I bought a 35mm macro lens for it, which is quite short for a macro lens, it means you have to get right up to the subject and end up overshadowing it to get full 1:1 macro. But because it’s short it’s great as a general purpose lens too and it was well rated. It’s the only extra lens I bought other than the kit lens that came with the camera but it was worth the money.

She had a full coat of aphids before I brushed and took the photo! So many of them it’s like a plague.
Spotted the start of buds on Ghislaine De Feligonde too this morning.
It’s Malus butterball the crabapple.
Although a bud on Malvern Hills looks like it’s starting to open up.

What do you use to take your photos?
