@Mr. Vine Eye, royal jubilee looks so beautiful. Lovely colour.

  • All that talk of pruning has made me almost want to start pruning. Usually I just wait through the winter and prune before bulbs get going.

Out of interest has anyone tried the sissinghurst method?https://www.susanneosmond.com/blog/rose-pruning-at-sissinghurst

It sounds a bit fiddly, but their roses do look enchanting.

@peteS I’ve just potted up some as well. I’m not sure what others do but I put mine on a couple of bricks for drainage, and add a top dressing of grit to suppress weeds come spring, and that’s about it.

@Littlegarden I've started to peg the long canes of Ferdinand Pichard (well, cane), for space reasons, and in the past have done that to Mme. Isaac Pereire, but nothing to the level they have done. If you like the style, have a go and see what you think? Which roses do you have?

For those who have received their DA orders, does yours still say unfulfilled on the order page?  Not sure if they're just behind on updating or if my order is messed up.

Anyone had a Shropshire lad rose?

Everywhere i read that it doesn't rebloom well but everytime i see its photos, it looks so beautiful. I guess i like that flower shape and reverse shading. Flower Jubilee Celebration looks similar to it and it is in wimpy state and i am babying it.

Is there any other rose that looks like it? I don't want to buy  green giant, but which other rose looks like it?

@Omori . I have received my DA order, all is correct but in my account it still says unfulfilled under shipping status.

Thanks @Tack looks like their system is just slow to update.
  • I’ve just received my bare root orders too.. the packaging says I have up to two weeks to plant them.. as long as I don’t break the inner seal.. I am busy at work this week and won’t have time until Saturday to pot them up.. (unless I want to pot them up in the dark at night) - I think that should be alright, what do you all reckon?

The second question is, should I cut open the top of the paper bag that the roses come in to allow some form of ventilation in the next two days? I feel uneasy leaving the entire bag sealed for so many days.. but I’m not sure what it looks like on the inside.. whether I would inadvertently open the inner seal when I cut off the top of the outer bag..

I’ve only ever bought potted ones before so this is my first time dealing with bare roots..
