@Marlorena my dame judi dench has shot away this year so far and has a beautiful colour to the leaves I think. I planted it last June so this will be it’s first full year but I definitely like it so far although too early to tell completely. It does have some big thorns but for me that’s not an issue with any rose as I don’t mind getting cut (Which happens a lot as I rarely wear gloves) by the thorns.
@Marlorena that’s a lovely coloured rose their. I have some potted roses in greenhouse this year after copying ur idea to trial them haha. One of them is the archiduc joseph rose which I decided to buy and it’s not too far off flowering although growth has been a bit spindly so far.
@Mr. Vine Eye Nice selection of plants. They have white gaura in stock... I have some plants from last year and some babies from cuttings but could do with more, even more when this is a smaller variety. I love them with roses. Problem is, I always buy more plants than I need from them and then don't have space for them.
My Gabriel Oak and Silas Marner are also smaller than Daniel's. So far, I like the foliage. Gabriel Oak grows a lot of strong branches very low from the main canes, another thing I like.
@edhelka my Gabriel oak has only just started sprouting (it was a bare root 6 weeks ago) - Silas Marner has two buds and I’m willing it along with all my might! Loving the foliage too.
So much for April showers! The forecast rain was pushed back a week, and this morning pushed back again by a few more days. That’s into the start of May.
We won’t have had a single drop of rain for the entire month if it sticks to what’s predicted!
@Mr. Vine Eye you are welcome to some of mine! It’s been raining solidly for 24 hours and forecast the same for the next two weeks. I have hundreds of buds on roses, some opening, but doubtless they will now sulk. Our local river is in full spate and widespread flooding is on the cards. I fear for the crops - we need that wheat!

...I never knew northern Spain could be so wet... people abroad think it's always raining in England, but here in parts of East Anglia it's actually semi-arid... lately always a sunny day, but I did get a few heavy showers overnight recently... but newly planted bare roots could do with rain, they just hate my tap water..
...two potted roses just arrived from Trevor Whites... I ordered about a week ago, so that's pretty good.. ...neither of these two would be suitable for those concerned about foliage issues, as they're not the most healthiest of roses to grow...
..sorry about blurring.. I took pictures with my mobile phone camera.. and the packaging was perfect, I just started to rip them apart - like we do yes?... ..fortunately my recycling still takes all this cardboard, so I can still dispose of it all, which is just as well as we are receiving quite a lot of stuff in the post these days..
'Wilhelm' [Kordes, Germany, hybrid musk 1934] on the left.. and 'Eugene Furst' [hybrid perpetual, Soupert & Notting, Luxembourg 1875].. on the right...
Well I usually only post photos of my roses when its sunny, @Marlorena! It’s unpredictable but usually very wet at this time of year, same in the South, where we used to live - practically every Easter processions were rained off - we used to joke that God was totally bored of all that religious guff, so sent the rain.
Dashed out to check on the leak in the poly and snapped Munstead Wood on the way:
That Salvia Guarantica Black and Blue behind/to the right is a lovely contrast with MW but it is getting out of control and is beginning to crowd out the roses. I must hoik it out when I get a chance and plant something better behaved there.
