@Marlorena...trouble is, the roots are about 10-11 inches long from when they start to curl round, so I'll need to cut them back slightly more than half to get it to sit anywhere near the centre of the pot I had intended to use. How much of the root do you think is ok to cut off without damaging the plant.
So lovely to see everyones roses! My Lovely styles roses bare root order just arrived with First great western and Copper lights in, cant wait for those to flower next year.
I have a slightly more shaded fence spot Id like to introduce a climbing or rambling rose to, Id like to try the more single dog rose style blooms this time, as something easier for bees to get into as a lot of mine are big double style. Ideally scented with good disease resistance and coloured rather than white as I have seagull elsewhere. I was looking at the simple life, or simple peach from Harkness. Any one tried those or have other good recommendations?
Wow that's a lot @Mr. Vine Eye...but good news because it means I can still use plan A. But how long can I leave it heeled in and still be able to carry out a hard prune like that do you think.
Just been to Harlow Carr, pleased to see the familiar green potted austin roses back in stock. Less pleased to see they have increased in price from £25 to £33 per pot! I know hc is expensive for plants, but austin are typically the same price in most shops. Hope its not a worrying trend of over the top inflation in plant prices for 2021.
..that's quite a hike... I'm not in the market for the usual potted Austin's at that price, unless it's for one of their larger potted roses such as they use for longer term growing.. I did pay 39.99 for one such last year, a huge Lady of Shalott in full bloom...
How about a bare root ‘The Mayflower’ from Sarah Raven (now unavailable) for the low, low price of £34.95 😳 You could get two from DA for practically that much, I don’t get it.
