    @Tack, thank you.  Yes, my Royal William is a superstar, very strong, with straight canes up to 5-6 ft high. Classic HT shape blooms which I love. Colour and perfume is to die for and they last for ages, despite bad weather. I've had blooms as late as November some years. Mine's about 25 years old now and has been moved three times from house to house. The only downside is bad blackspot in late season but I can live with that.

    I’ve ordered Velvet Fragrance, looking forward to it.

    I too am crossing my fingers for a dark DA introduction!

    Velvet Fragrance has rose Fragrant Cloud as a parent, Royal William (my avatar) has it as a grandparent. I love the stuff you can see on HMF as a member

    When do the new DA roses typically get announced? They've not been on my radar till this year. Too much time during lockdown to moon over roses online.

    Of my three roses, only the unknown pink one which is at least 50 years old is still going. (It's  a hideous plant with gorgeous soft pink blooms seven feet up, only visible from the bedroom window, and a lot of dead wood. Cut away part of it this year and it was full of slaters. I might ask you clever people for advice on whether it's rehabilitatable as a plant next year.)

    Arthur Bell has had two buds on it for about three weeks but I daresay they won't open as it's not in a terribly sunny spot anyway, and Lavender Lassie has shut up shop.

    There seems to be a good selection of deep red Hybrid Teas around, but very little in repeat-flowering shrub roses. I wonder if the latter is a very tricky thing to pull off? The roll call of red/purple DA shrub roses that have been introduced then discontinued is rather long - Tradescant, The Prince, Prospero, William Shakespeare, William Shakespeare 2000 and now Munstead Wood. Falstaff seems to be the only survivor on their website (although not really promoted) maybe this is actually a good one?! I’ve been a bit sniffy about HTs in the past, not really my style, but have a few on order, including two red ones - Francis Dubreuil aka Barcelona and Deep Secret, so I will be interested to see what I think of them and if they convert me!

    Mmmm Munstead Wood 😍 back in summer.

    Think it’s got a bud on now. Has stayed quite compact. I’m planning to try and take a cutting but based on the growth I’ll probably only manage one cutting stem at a push.

    Planted my Lady Emma Hamilton yesterday in driving rain, absolutely soaked. Didn’t get chance to take a photo!

    There are red hybrid perpetuals (disease-prone) and red chinas (different style than most people want and also not exactly disease-free). Also a lot of true red roses (HTs, floribundas and ground cover roses) but I agree, not that much deep red/burgundy/purplish red. Pink is a dominant colour in roses so it's always easier to get pink.

    @sarinka

    Theyre usually announced in March, around the time that the new catalogue is released.

    But this year they got released early.

    I posted the info about them on here as soon as I saw it. 14th January - It was released like an interview on a gardening website somewhere. Then they were also possible to find if you searched for the name on DAs website. But they weren’t officially announced by DA until the usual time, and they acted as if nothing was out of the ordinary.

    Was very strange.

    @Mr. Vine Eye, Yes it was your post where I first saw new DA introductions. I am banking on you to find the  next new DAs  :)

    Sorry if I missed a previous post. Are the discontining Munstead Wood?
