I’ve been window shopping at CA, lovely selection. Will place an order next month as I’ve just bought several roses so must cool my jets 😅

What I’ve ordered... I wanted Cornelia as well but sold out while I was hemming and hawing 😕

Hi @Marlorena They’re from Crocus with the discount. Won’t be getting them for a month with all the current delays, will be interesting to see how developed they are. I’ll post pics when they get here.

Oh yes please.. I'm sure we would all like to see them...  I meant to mention that Trevor White Roses have increased their potted rose selection, some really good ones, for either 16.95 or 17.95 each... Cornelia is still available there...  I can recommend their potted roses in 4.5 litr pots... I've had them before and they are top quality..and the pots are recyclable for what it's worth at the moment..

Being a family run concern they are still despatching as normal  ''business as usual'' ..  there are certainly a few I would like..

Fabulous selection there @Marlorena! Wouldn’t mind Mutabilis too, so pretty and interesting in person.
  • Good to see everyone's roses coming along and glad I am not the only one thinking about new roses so early in the season🙂

Does anyone know the DA Chianti? It doesn't seem to be one of the more popular Austins (based purely on a search on here). I know it's once-flowering and a hefty size but does it have any other vices?  I thought it might be a good candidate for my front garden when some building work is eventually complete.

Oh that's nice @Marlorena, thank you for the pictures. I think even on the DA site there are only two photos. I like it even better now.  I was a bit concerned the colour might not be exactly as I wanted but I also really like the flower shape.

Yes, one for the possible list! Will do some musing and measuring as it looks like it'll be autumn before I get the front garden finished to plant up.

    Thank you😊

Just editing to say I've ordered from Claire Austin Perennials several times before, although not recently and have always been happy/ had no issues.

Love those purple tones in Chianti!

After a very short interval of sun, my weather has resumed normal Easter service - cold and wet and the same forecast for the rest of the week, so all that promise of buds opening will probably not come to bear for another week  :/

Isn't the name Chianti also a reference to its gallica parent, Tuscany? I find it weird that there used to be some uncertainty about the parentage with so blatant reference.
I've also read somewhere that 1st generation gallica offsprings are always or almost always once-bloomers and it needs at least two generations to get repeating into them.
With Chianti being the 1st generation, these are some of the 2nd generation DAs:
    The Knight (occasional repeat)
    3rd generation:
    Prospero (repeating)
    The Squire (repeating)
    Wise Portia (occasional repeat)
    Wenlock (repeating)
    Glastonbury (occasional repeat)
4th generation (only some of them):
    The Prince
    The Dark Lady
    Tradescant
    William Shakespeare
    Tess of d'Ubervilles
    Othello
    Macbeth
    L. D. Braithwaite
The more modern reds (Mundstead Wood etc.) are probably 5th or 6th generation, maybe even more :)
