@Nollie What a lovely thought.. that roses get better with age.. much like fine wine. I’ve also been saving my used tea leaves.. I am not a huge tea drinker so it’s taking a while to accumulate enough for even just one rose..

My cousin just posted this photo of a very unusual coloured rose.....does anyone recognise it as she’s lost the label. It is scented and she thought it was an old rose.

I have a question about rose planting and aesthetics. Please tell me if I'm posting in the right thread - and if not, which one I should post in! I'm a newbie and very keen but also want to follow proper forum etiquette ...

I know that DA recommends buying roses in 3s to get the full effect of the roses. I'm not sure I have quite the space for that, and wondered if any of you have ever planted just two of the same variety? I'd quite like to get more than one variety of rose in my front garden (south facing and warmest), and I reckon I could have two varieties if I planted only two plants of each. Has anyone done this before? Did it look silly? Or am I just way overthinking things?

I have just added a 2nd Desdemona Rose next to my 1st one to get a more impressive display as it’s not a big rose. I have other roses that are planted in ones but they grow larger. It depends on how much space you have and the mature size of the Rose you buy. No hard  and fast rules 😀

i Don’t think it would look silly. Some roses get plenty large and bushy enough planted singly. Climbers obviously can fill quite a large space by themselves.

like you, I wanted as many different varieties as possible. So mine are all single plants. I’ve just used all available space!

Id rather have a hodgepodge of different ones together than loads of the same variety.

But that can look really good too! It’s all personal choice

I tend to grow my roses in a mixed flower border and not in a dedicated rose bed.
