  • Phew!!
Just got through a marathon catch up on this thread, it moves fast.
I do not recall seeing any photos of Blue Moon.
    Does anyone grow this rose?
It is a rose that I would like for sentimental reasons and would be interested in any opinions.

I have this rose and desperately trying to bring it back to life, it didn't like the hot summer in the South East and defoliated without flowering!

I'm hoping it's not a gonner and please consider my experience as only one view point as I'm not the best at nurturing my roses, they need to do or die in my garden!

    Thanks @Marlorena
Beales also have 'Twice in a blue moon' which I thought may be the new & improved successor.
I remember Blue Moon as my late Gran's favorite rose, so it has sentimental value to me. I just need to decide whether to get 1 to try it or dive in with 3 as a group in the border...
@AlliumPurpleSensation I wish you best of luck to revive it as you are in a small group of Blue Moon growers at present it seems.
Just another day at the plant...

...oh yes I forgot about that one.. an earlier improvement but I gather they are both very similar but with different scents... perhaps get both?...

..a lot nicer than marrows or courgettes... lol..

Marlorena and Nollie, thanks for your responses (more responses still welcome).
I used to think three flushes are good but with the season starting significantly earlier this year, some roses do better than that.
Some roses don't have distinct flushes, more like waves that have some overlap. PAoK is like that but she usually gets stopped by blackspot and isn't weather-resistant, so blooms from mid-August are rarely pretty.
I like the pattern of hybrid musks and polyanthas with 4-6 weeks of being completely covered in blooms and then scattered blooms later (almost always something but for example only one cluster per plant at the given moment).
I also like Scarborough Fair, it hasn't been without blooms since late May, that's three months of continuous blooming. I think it will take a break now to regrow leaves and there will be some more blooms in October/November. I had blooms from it in January but not pretty.

I'm impressed too... I wasn't aware they shipped potted roses to the UK.. so that's good to know..  I'll take a look I think..

    @micmarg Lovely roses.
Garden of Roses is known as Joie de Vivre here, Cream Veranda in the US. Very reliable, easy to grow and healthy rose.

Lady Emma Hamilton is by far my best bloomer, really, really floriferous. Will need to give others time to see how they perform once mature.
  • @Marlorena thank you.  I will upload more and did notice there was nothing on there for Shropshire Star so that will be my next one.

I don't think I've had most of my roses long enough to know how quickly they will flush throughout a whole season but my best so far is probably my B&Q R Favori which has done exceptionally well and was about a month to the second flush.  Also Desdemona is doing brilliantly.  Only had her a couple of months and she is now in her second flush with me.  Currently has 10 blooms and approximately 80 buds.  A Whiter Shade of Pale seems to be a continual bloomer.  Claire Marshall has kept me waiting around 2 months for a second flush but has started now.
