I've just come across Red Jasmine and was wondering if it is a suitable plant to be grown amongst my climbing/rambling roses. The info describes it as a vigorous climber.
@poppyfield64 - I think you must mean what’s the red rose in edhelka’s photo, next to PAoK?
@edhelka, I’m not sure I will keep PAoK, not just lack of patience, mostly because I don’t like how the blooms turn salmon in heat.
How is the repeat and the fragrance on Souvenir de Saint Anne’s? I’m glad you posted on this, because I have just realised I have missed it off my TCL order. I planned to have SdeSA on one side of a seat and Marie Pavie the other, both in large permanent pots.
Here is my Prince again for comparison, such different habits. Mine is very upright with canes growing very close together and starting to rub. I hope it puts out more basals next year to compensate for the thinning I will have to do, though getting my secateurs in there to do that will be tricky. I have removed many of the lower leaves ravaged by rose slugs, but otherwise health is good and the repeat is not bad either:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
I've decided not to order any more this year. Since I stocked up and got a lot between last autumn and spring. There are some others that I fancy but I’ll hold off for now. See how the others fill their spaces and if any shuffling needs doing in Autumn. Will be taking some cuttings too.
Thanks @Mr. Vine Eye Will be interesting to see how the cuttings compare to the grafted mother plants, I have a few going as well. Dunno where I'm putting those
I moved the new red cane a bit on The Generous Gardener to check it was still flexible enough to move where I needed it...nope! Snapped! What a pain, I thought I was being quite gentle with it, didn’t feel any resistance but it just went.
Not completely off, so I’ve tied it in the hopes it might repair itself since it’s young.
At least there’s a backup one lower down!
Princess Alexandra of Kent today. I’m pleased that all of the pinks in this bed look quite distinct from each other.
@Nollie I agree, interesting to see your 'The Prince'.
PAoK changes between warm pink and cold pink here too but never completely salmon.
I am very happy with SdeSA. From photos, it flowered 27/4 - approx. 27/5, then two weeks pause and again 15/6 - very short gap - end of July and then the longest pause so far but the 3rd flush isn't too far. The fragrance is strong.
You could also look into other SdlM sport if you want doubles. For me, SdeSA is perfect because as a semi-double, it needs less resources, can repeat quicker and can keep more energy for growing and disease resistance. And it has fragrant stamens so it is also more fragrant.
