Hi @Lizzie27, Pippa is not wrong, botyris does cause pink spotting too, usually in cooler, wetter weather but for me, the hotter and drier it is, the spottier my roses are, hence thinking it’s pigment breakdown here. I’m just underwhelmed by Bonica in general whatever the cause of her spots!
Some Autumn blooms...
Gertrude Jekyll on a late flush:
La Rose de Molinard:
Spotless Astronomia starting again after a break. It’s grown from a bare root into a large healthy shrub in 7 months:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Unknown rose in my garden which pruned to the ground in August to try and rejuvenate. It is coming back lovely, a much better shape. It decided to surprise me with a single bud so I bought inside
My camera doesn't capture the colour quite right as it's a little deeper. It has been lovely having it inside though.
One of the roses I've been looking at for a few weeks now is Old Port. This evening I've been looking again on HMF and it seems it is the parent of Heidi Klum. Disease resistance for Old Port is only rated fair and Heidi Klum good. I know @Tack and @Nollie you both have Heidi Klum albeit not for long but how have you found the foliage so far?
It's difficult to decide as you can't see on there what climate the people live in that rate them, so not sure if it should be taken with a pinch of salt.
I'm fairly sure my HK is still clean @poppyfield64. This is it behind Wildberry a few days ago.But as experience already tells me that can change quickly I'll take a
pic tomorrow. It is a smaller rose than OP. I really like it.
Thanks @Tack. This is the problem and I guess there are no guarantees. I was drawn to Old Port because of colour, fragrance and in photos it seems to hold the blooms nicely upright. I'm the worlds worst for making decisions and spend so much time going back and forth that I end up confusing myself even more lol
Very pretty @newbie77 . I have only ever brought broken stems inside. I am very reluctant to cut the flowers, maybe when my plants are bigger with more flowers I will.
@poppyfield64 I found some leaves with a bit of rust, but not many, a few insect-munched, no BS. I expect the plant will hold its flowers upright with maturity, they don't sag until fully openYou want Old Port really though so get that, or both!
@poppyfield64 my HK is completely clean, so far, but it was sprayed by the nursery prior to receipt, so tricky to judge if that’s natural or not. My blooms are a deeper colour than Tacks and very upright on sturdy stems, no drooping at all. Climate, sun exposure, potting medium (I use a lot of ericaceous compost in my mix), who knows why the difference. Go with your heart, I’d say!

Thanks @Tack that is such a lovely bloom and your foliage is looking good. I think you're right about me wanting Old Port but don't tell me to get both lol
@Nollie I always forget about them being sprayed previously so that is a really good point. Do you use ericaceous for all your roses, potted and planted? It's interesting that your blooms are deeper coloured than Tack's. So many variables to consider. I think my heart is going for Old Port so will get a bare root this winter.
@newbie77 that's such a lovely colour combination. I really need to get some cuttings for indoors especially with the turn in the weather.
I've had the Peter Beales catalogue arrive today, I like the way it's all beautifully laid out in colour order (maybe they all are...I don't know?) but am pretty sure now I will order one from there and one from Trevor Whites to start me off...can't wait.

One of the little selections: Summer song, the poet's wife and Benjamin Britten.
I love bringing flowers inside.
