It's 26C here, foggy nights changing into hazy days. Maybe time to go for a swim... we have the best beach nearby, long and shallow with mountain views... as someone from a country without sea, I really enjoy living close to the coast.
@Marlorena I am happy to hear that Florence D. does finally well for you. It's such a pretty rose. Shame about the rose replant disease. I guess I'll see my portion of problems with it too soon.
@cazsophieq2019 I don't know how others but I wouldn't move it now, I would just train it horizontally, using bamboo canes or something similar, to get more blooms and prevent damage to the cane. When you move it, you can take the whole cane and retrain it as needed, it should still be pliable enough. Unless you want to do some zigzagging or multiple bends.
I don't usually have any water to give the plants at this time of year but this year I'm watering just to stop the butts overflowing. I water the roses in pots once a week, they seem ok but they're planted in my garden soil which is quite heavy.
A few of you have Lark Ascending on your shopping lists I think so I thought I'd post these from a bareroot planted last winter. I know it's crowded out with other things but I had to temporarily move some plants out the way of my builders.
A lone flower from Flanders inbetween flushes (a late purchased bare root), the flowers remind me of one of the Bishop dahlias.
This is rather ugly, Scentimental, another new root from last winter. I feel like I haven't seen the best of this rose. Something about it makes me think it will never be a sweet and pretty little plant. It's new foliage is matt and swarthy like a russet apple. I kind of like it. It's going in the ground in front of my echinops; they are not the most attractive either but again, something about them.
So lovely seeing all these beautiful blooms from everyone. They look amazing.
@Marlorena & @Omori thank you for your opinions on my new trellis. I think I will use it for the wall of the house. Will have to think up other ways of hiding neighbours fence.
I have Desdemona with a lot more buds on ready to open soon. Graham Thomas is now blooming again from the 2 new canes it threw up. For Your Eyes Only is covered in buds again.
I haven't had much sign of disease on any new plants from this season apart from Boscobel who has developed some BS and also some leaves turning yellow and dropping off.
Marlorena your Chandos Beauty is looking gorgeous. Mine is just about to flower again although we are on a weather warning so I did cut one to bring in the house just in case.
Does anyone have experience of Tantau's climbing rose 'Camelot' or Kordes climbing rose 'Laguna@ or any climber that doesn't throw it's petals everywhere after a couple of days.
@Marlorena, thank you! The white flowers are either lobelia or stocks (I think). I chucked seeds in a planter and have let them punch it out.
Not done much gardening recently, but my newly planted Mme Alfred carriere has mildew!! So I'm deep watering her and hoping for the best. She's still growing upwards so I'm hopeful.
I'm at a loss of what to with with Claire Austin around the front. Should I deadhead her even if she's a climber? Should I just let her go wild and then decide which will be the main canes come winter? I find climbers really intimidating!
@poppyfield64 There seem to be two groups of people - the 1st group prefer self-cleaning roses and the 2nd group hates petals everywhere and prefer to deadhead the flowers. As someone in the 1st group, I just want to say: Consider the logistics of deadheading a large climber regularly.
I see your point @edhelka. I have Alibaba at the front of the house and it seems I'm sweeping up petals every day because the blooms are so short lived. Graham Thomas also at the front seems to hold onto blooms a lot longer so I have no issues with that one. I suppose really I'd like another like GT. The 2 I mentioned are rated very good for disease resistance which is a plus for where I live but I'm unsure how long the blooms will last.

Think I can get away with it being up North. I have watered my pots though.
