I kind of like your balling nightmare rose @edhelka, I think you've done well there bringing it back, if I can say that as a novice. I like the new growth and the darker stems against the green foliage. Be interesting to know what it is.
On a side note I'm also quite jealous of your ajuga, it looks really happy. I've lost 3, thought I'd fixed the issue last year and now they are back to ragged again.
@Tack, wow that was a very quick delivery! I paid by bank transfer as I can’t have a paypal account for complicated reasons, so mine will take a bit longer.
@edhelka terrific job on your mystery HT, just shows what you can do with neglected roses.
Clearer this morning, but we had another massive deluge yesterday evening and the thunder was cracking so loudly overhead it felt like the house was under attack! This was JC in between storms, with Crocosmia Emily McKensie:
My Gertrude Jekyll, just finishing a respectable second flush has thrown out long canes again and is trying to escape what is already a very large pot:
Astronomia and Stormy Weather are keepers, they just keep pushing out new growth so never a long to wait for more blooms:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
pictures taken yesterday before the rain. Ronald Dahl - I love the shape and colour...new favourite mayhem Jubilee celebration on much happier in the ground Ghislaine de feligonde - I really like the habit on this rose very healthy
Lovely cats @Katsa (is your name related?) , all grey apart from Penny! I can only think of rose Alina for Calina. There are a few roses with 'grey' in the name if you look on HMF
'Francis Dubreuil' ['Barcelona'].. opened up more today.. a sumptuous, dark velvety rose with a sweet scent of damask roses.. 'The Ancient Mariner'.. 'Chawton Cottage'.. 'Aquarell'.. more yellow today.. 'Duchessse de Brabant'... scented of Tea.. quite strong.. 'Bathsheba'.. floral, grassy scent.. 'Eustacia Vye'...
@Victoria SpongeUnfortunately I have no advice regarding ajuga. I cut any scraggly bits after flowering and I limit its spread. It lives only on rainwater and excess water/feed from nearby roses and clematis.
@Nollie Your Gertrude is something! What do you plan to do with her? Leave her in the pot for another year?
Roald Dahl smells amazing! I get a waft whenever I walk past. Although it's currently fighting a losing battle with a local farmer manure spreading.
A shy bloom on my Jacques Cartier
A flower carpet
A not great photo of boule de Neige and awakening behind it
A Comte de Chambord peeking out of the foliage
My proper job doesn't look so good I wonder if it's rose replant disease? I planted it very close to where a rose was growing preciously although I had dug up and replaced a lot of the soil. Thoughts?
I thought you would like to see a few of my rufty tufty roses. I don't have a garden as such more like a woodland wilderness so all the roses have to deal with a North facing garden and lots of trees.
One success for growing under hanging branches of a beech tree is the climber Penny Lane. It is still fairly young but has flowered well
It is a daughter of The new Dawn that I also grow. PL looks similar but ND is slightly more cream coloured
I love the form of the New dawn buds and the scent is delicious. It doesn't seem to mind torrential rain or gales or -15 frost.
This is the first year of Sweet Honey. The flowers are about going over but they have been lovely. A warm honey pink
And this one...... heaven knows what it is. However it does well here, puts up with a lot. The dark pink petals have stripes and splashes of magenta and grows to about 3ft
And finally my Gertrude Jekyll imposter. The flowers are going over but it has been in bloom since May..... even coped with hailstones!
This is halfway up the "garden" looking east. I'm thinking of getting a Hansa rose to see how this copes with the trees. There is a beautiful old wall (c1740) I could grow roses against if I could find any that could withstand the conditions.

This is Connie enjoying the garden at our old place...
And looking more regal
And here's sprocket having a chillax under some comfrey
Both have now died so I'd love to grow a rose for them.
I'll stop spamming you all with cat photos now!
