'Easy Does it' which I think is a useless name and I remember Harpageant much more easily.
I usually label photos sorry. In order they were Wollerton Old Hall, Easy Does it, Charles Darwin, Odyssey, Ebb tide, Odyssey with Easy Does it and Boscobel. Clematis Princess Diana and Hagley Hybrid
Damages here: The Generous Gardener cane (but I fixed it back and the connection looks good, I think it will heal), some smaller branches and blooms, blackspot leaves... nothing major. One big broken cosmos which I liked. I have to try dwarf ones next year.
Not much flowering here or looking nice. I managed to remove damaged bits and do some deadheading today and took some photos.
'Clarence House' almost a week ago
And the full plant today (different bloom). It started slowly but it looks really good now.
'La Belle Rouge', buddleia in the background
'Gabriel Oak'
'Olivia Rose Austin'
Echinacea Magnus
'Purple Lodge' showing some surprisingly good looking rain damage
Beautiful roses all...your Rhapsody in Blue is a great colour @poppyfield64 and love that Odyssey photo with the bees @Tack
Sorry some of you have had wind damage, it's not been too bad here although it's chucking it down again...to be honest I haven't been keeping track of the weather so maybe it's incoming.
Some wider garden shots today when the weather was nice earlier (and because none of my roses are particularly amazing at the moment). As others were saying, I can't normally get correct colour on this red, Trumpeter but managed today with a bit of glare. Scentimental is in the pot behind it and the non-flowering big rose on the far side of the bridge is the Alba Celestial.
A front garden shot, this is all getting moved around over winter, except The Lark Ascending which I'm creating some growing space for. I also have plans for a new yellow shrub rose where the Inula currently is, Beales' Ambassador Nogami.
My Etoile de Hollande has a snapped cane.. and it was one of the strongest new basal cane too.. I’ve since tied it to a stake but the tip seems to be wilting so it probably isn’t salvageable.
I’m now getting sporadic blooms in the garden, not quite the full show like in June (apart from my yellow Sunsprite and Roald Dhal) - but still enjoyable nonetheless
Desdemona
Boscobel
Gertrude Jekyll
Sceptr’d Isle - it actually has a very similar shade of pink to early Desdemona blooms.. the latter turns to pure white as it matures
And Munstead Wood - I’m quite pleased with how MW has fought back powdery mildew and has put on quite a show this month.
A rose I like is 'That's Jazz'. It is a climber with a rich red colour, now on its second flush. The second flush works better here, as I planted it without giving it realistic support, and the second flush doesn't weigh down the branches as much as the first flush which tends to come more in clusters. I had a daft plan a few years ago to use a Pyracantha as support. That never worked, the firethorn is now gone, and TJ stands all by itself. I may relocate it, but yet, I feel I am nearly getting away with it. The reason being that its habit is quite strong and nicely vase-shaped. I have become more aware now that the innate branching structure of a rose is quite an important trait, and TJ does well. TJ is the rose that I cut back the most each year - out of necessity due to its daft position. @Nollie Am I correct in thinking that you like rich red blooms? I think you recently were not pleased with the upright habit of another rose, so maybe that rules out TJ (unless that doesn't apply to climbers).
The acer is our neighbour's, it adds magnificently to our garden too.
@Mr. Vine Eye haha! Trust you to pick up on that! I don’t know why but my phone seems to always correct ‘basal’ to ‘nasal’... and I don’t even really use the word ‘nasal’ in day to day speech...!
