@Mr Vine Eye, re your aster cuttings. If they grew chunky roots quite quickly, you may like to know that some asters can 'run' everywhere and become invasive!

@peteS 'Scented Garden', 'Scarborough Fair', generally singles and semidoubles are usually good in rainy summers. 'Gabriel Oak' if you want something with fuller blooms. I also like 'Olivia Rose Austin', it's a good rose no matter the conditions.
But I am happy with most of my roses this year. I don't expect the best performance all the time.

@peteS Of those @edhelka listed I have Olivia RA, very bulletproof. Only downside is scent is medium, but then, still better than unscented considering how many good qualities it has.

Another option is The Mayflower, which has a strong scent, and is also very bulletproof.

I've just ordered 3 more Gabriel Oaks and DA rose food, with multi-buy discount and 15% off voucher, it was just over £15 per rose, not bad. (The code is OLIVIA, ends 10th November). I plan to do something like a minihedge/symmetrical groupings in my front garden (the plan is 2 GOs - lavender - Olivia - Purple Lodge - Olivia - lavender - 2 GOs).

That sounds really nice @edhelka, can't wait to see how it progresses. I hadn't realised there was a voucher running, now I'm thinking to place a DA order for the ones I couldn't find on TCL :# Well, what's 4 more roses in the grand scheme of things...  :D

Nice basket, Omori. Here's mine. I only need either GJ or Tess for a particular space on my fence and am hoping inspiration hits by payday. Everything else in that bed is quite pale and pastel, so perhaps Tess would be a richer pop of colour for the back. But everyone on the other gardening forum I read raves about GJ.

@sarinka Thank you, likewise :) GJ is quite a strong pink so I would think it should stand out with pale pastels. I don't have Tess so can't offer any opinions on it but I do like GJ, I have it on a fence as you are thinking to do. It is very thorny but other than that, no complaints.

@edhelka @Omori...thanks for that, some lovely roses to consider there. I've already got SF coming as a bare root shortly...Gabriel Oak is a beauty and will definitely order that...then it's a toss up between Olivia RA and Mayflower.

I would say that Olivia RA is more luscious in terms of foliage and flower, while The Mayflower has smaller foliage and smaller blooms, more ruffly in appearance as opposed to Olivia RA which has large, perfect flowers. But the upside to The Mayflower is it has a nice strong fragrance, as opposed to Olivia RA, which is light-medium. I would also recommend The Mayflower for a difficult site, as it is very tough and hardy in my experience. Can't speak for Olivia RA in that regard as it is in a more pampered location. Don't suppose you have room/budget for both? Neither take up a huge amount of space. @peteS

Well that’s another website rabbit hole you’ve sent me down @Tack! Some lust-worthy dark red/purple hybrid perpetuals and bourbons, but the ones that caught my eye either have zero information or don’t match the description of class or colour anywhere else, so I will resist adding to my already extensive rose trials. Hope TP does well for you, what else is on your list?
