@Marlorena Thank you for the Agel Rosen recommendation I have just ordered the rose that I've coveted most of yours (having discounted Aquarell for health), Wildberry. I also ordered Heidi Klum, thank you for showing me that one @Nollie . Interesting when you search the site for rain resistance it brings up Wildberry, which clinched it. Delivery costs for both potted roses were 21.76 Euro (12 for one rose).
Eye of the Tiger starting up again, I do find it cheery
Royal William giving a very generous bunch of large blooms together
That’s great, thanks, @Katsa and @edhelka. Whatever I choose from my shortlist would be in a sheltered spot against my east wall, protected from the worst of my heat and heavy rain.
Edhelka, what were the main criticisms of Caroline?
Katsa - the colours of PP and PJ are really different IRL yet virtually identical in the catalogue, so your photos are really helpful, thanks. Re Soul, very healthy but waiting for blooms is like pulling teeth! It didn't ball in heavy rain, just a little damage around the edges, but like PJ it does go crispy in full sun (see photo below). Jury still out.
[edited to remove repetition and to say, @Tack, hope you enjoy your new roses, it is taking all my willpower to not order potted roses just now!!
I think Kaffe Fasset is my favourite on my shortlist, @Marlorena. Are you not too impressed with your Tantaus or just out of room?
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@Nollie My willpower failed terribly. I was NOT going to buy more potted roses but my excuse is I need cheering up after a theft from the garden Sunday night. They brought bolt cutters the swine.
I was always going to buy Wildberry, I just love @Marlorena 's and I am realising that my plan to buy several more roses on my next Germany trip may not be filled for some time.
@Nollie Heidi Klum is on my list too.. it’s said to be very strongly perfumed..
@Pianoplayer That rose looks so healthy! Is it fragrant?
I’ve observed something lately.. and I might be stating the obvious here. I noticed that aphids tend to be preceded by the presence of this tiny fluffy white bits.. I’m not sure if they’re living precursors to aphids.. but they’re almost little broken strands of cotton wool.. and whether it’s coincidence or not, aphids would inevitably follow. I thought aphids’ precursors are the green flies but these fluffy bits are white. Anyone else noticed this too? I have tried to squish them but they don’t seem to have any substance to them at all.. and they don’t move either?
On another note.. here’s Lady Emma Hamilton and Desdemona.
Wonderful fragrance.. short lived blooms though..
Gosh just look at those perfectly unblemished foliage.. and this is no spray too! Can’t sing enough praises really..
Hi @celcius_kkw yes, no fungus of any kind at all, and amazingly not a single aphid or sawfly! The roses - well, they certainly aren't DA types! They have a delicious tea scent, but it isn't strong - I get a slight waft when I go out of my back door. They are also not very long-lasting - a couple of days. But there are loads of them, and I love the colour pattern and variation on them. The bees and hoverflies also like them, being single.
I think Warner is an interesting breeder - Tack's Eye of the Tiger and Nollie's Warm Welcome are also by him. I think the rather naff names have led some to discount them!
@Tack ...I'm delighted you got Wildberry.. I wasn't aware they despatched potted roses, so that's good to know... I do hope you like it.. Julia Child is one terrific rose, loves heat and copes with drought too, as you would expect from a Californian..
@Nollie ..Oh I have to make do with what I've got for now... my garden is ruined for roses due to replant disease, so I can only put in pots, and I've got enough of those.. I've had some 200 roses go through this garden in the last 10 years.. so no wonder the soil is worn out .. I shall just have to look on with envy ...
..but then again,... I'm sure I shall come up with some excuse during the winter ...
Not technically roses... But last year when I visited Elsham and posted photos on here of the roses there, I mentioned that they had an area of lavender planted in waves on this raised area. But as it was June it wasn't in flower. Well it was today!
Gorgeous!
I also picked up a fairly ripe rugosa hip off the ground and I've removed the seeds to see if I can get anything out of them. Will sow and overwinter.

Sorry to hear about the theft @Tack I abhor thieves.

So that's back on topic 😉
