@celcius_kkw, I haven't really formed an opinion of Scentimental yet. It has only had 3 flowers and they all coincided with the heavy rains and didn't last long.
It is scented, a very sweet, roseish scent but it varied from day to day and I think it might not have been at its best during the rain.
I'm not an accomplished grower of roses in pots and this one has a space in the ground for next year, I don't know if its manner of growth would be pleasing in a pot or if it is sufficiently floriferous🤔
@petes I’ve not personally experienced that, perhaps sulphate of potash would help in the future, as that is good for improving stem strength and disease resistance.
@Mr. Vine Eye, @Pianoplayer...you could very well be right. After visiting the internet, I have found photos which show sawfly damage and it's very similar. I'll have to have a thorough check of the leaves for signs of their damage also and weigh up my next step.
How do you find the bloom frequency and how long do they last? I have a few in mind, but my Soul one is more interested in growing into a large shrub rather than flowering (lovely as they are when they come). I don’t know if that’s just because it’s spending time establishing/the new enriched bed is encouraging this over flowering. Appreciate your thoughts folks. @Katsa, also how do Pure Poetry and Proper Job compare, I think you have them both? Do you have any photos? Still undecided between those two!
I am also looking for a compact pink/violet rose for a pot or small bed. Kaffe Fassett is another Tantau I am considering, but can’t find out much about it. Don’t know whether it’s an undiscovered gem or just not a great rose. The alternative is Freifrau Caroline from Kordes. The latter has lots of awards, but I know Kordes roses can be thorny beasts. The wild card is Heidi Klum, but less disease resistance. Decisions decisions...
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
I'll dig out some photos shortly. I also really want Kaffe Fasset but can't find it anywhere to ship to the UK! I was thinking of ordering Soul but wondered if it'll have a tendency to ball like Pure Poetry has done. My two Parfuma roses from Kordes have been absolute gems - and I've been looking at Freifrau Caroline as well. Again, can't find it to be sent to the UK anywhere!
Here's some (not great) photos of Pure Poetry and Gospel. Both are between flushes and putting good growth on, but not so many buds:
Pure Poetry:
Proper Job:
I took the second photo after it had been fried in the sun during our short heat wave.
I'd say that PP is definitely more purple(ish) and I love the scent. It looks good in a vase as well. PJ, is definitely a red rose and also has nice scent.
I don't think I want any more Tantau's this winter... Kaffe Fassett was on my list for last winter but I removed it as being one too many..
Incidentally, I recommend the following German nursery for shipping to the UK, all Tantau and roses from other breeders including the interesting French NIRP International roses... I paid 14.55 Euros [about a tenner] for 4 roses from them, all great quality roses... paid via PayPal.. and delivery was quick by DPD courier, timed delivery..
...the site is in English, if you click on the flag at the top... I don't think you can order bare roots at the moment... the only question mark is that you do not know exactly which rootstock your rose is grafted onto, as a whole variety of rootstocks are used by various suppliers they use, but this is not something to worry about unduly.. Very much recommended from me.. they also sell Austins, including older ones..
I should mention another nursery in Belgium that members might be interested in, although I've not ordered from them, just that I always look at their roses and put loads in a basket but never quite make it to checkout... their delivery charges seems to be about 26 Euros, but I'm not sure how many you can order for that charge, which I find a little on the high side.. however, their range is extensive, including recent Tantau's and all sorts... they ship to outside Europe too.. FIL Roses, Belgium..

I'll post more pics when it flowers again.

Not sure if that's helpful!
