"This is a bit off on a tangent but I actually wrote to Harkness to say
how disappointed I am with the Claire Marshall rose they sent me from
the 'chelsea stock' it has only flowered once: two bloomd that dropped
and shrivelled in day.
It's very slow to rebloom and the growth is slow too with hardly any new shoots.
I
sent them a picture of a Claire matshall rose my friend bought in
homebase that was glorious. I'm wondering if I have the wrong rose!
How are everyone else's 'chelsea' roses? "
Well @Ffoxglove, my Susie that was also sold as Chelsea stock that I was a bit disappointed in when it arrived in Spring has produced 4 blooms which were lovely but it hasn't put on a great deal of growth since and @Big Blue Sky said it was a fairly fast grower. It's not so far showed any signs of a second flush. Hoping it will take off next year as I really liked the flowers. I know the ground doesn't look the best but "The Simple Life" which grows next to it and was also bought from Harkness, but last Autumn, has put on quite a lot of growth and is just beginning its second flush now.
I agree with you that when it was sold as "Chelsea stock" it does get you all excited at its potential
Hi all, haven’t posted any photos in ages. Most of my roses are building up for another flush, or for some of them it’s their first proper one after only managing one or two flowers in June - lots of new ones.
Had some exciting new growth on ones that had been sat for quite a while.
Last day of term today so I’m looking forward to being able to spend some more time in the garden this summer!
Royal Jubilee:
Lady of Shalott
Malvern Hills
Amber Queen - lovely new growth
Bathsheba
Gabriel Oak coming to life
Kew Gardens starting to climb!
I really like this patch - Aster, alliums, echinacea, rudbeckia, verbena. Some grasses mixed in here and Vanessa Bell soon to flower again.
@FiddlingOn it's frustrating isn't it. I wrote to them but they haven't responded. I just won't use them in future I think because even my David Austin bare root that I didn't plant until may is doing muuuuch better Here it is:
@Mr. Vine Eye your Royal Jubilee is absolutely gorgeous and love the colour of your Lady of Shalott too.
@Marlorena I saw a Tottering at our local garden centre. It only had one flower open but I was surprised at how big it was seeing it in the flesh. Was tempted to get it but all their DA roses looked terrible and wasn't going to pay the same price as getting a healthy one from DA online.
What difference a few months make. The little fella in the middle of the first pic with the white label is Windflower and to it's left, partly obscured, is a moved Gentle Hermione. Both have been overwhelmed with the growth around them and have decided to dig them up come the Autumn and grow them on in a pot for a couple of years to get bigger.
Sorry completely the wrong picture in the last post. What difference a few months make. Looking good @Mr. Vine Eye, Royal Jubilee looks great against that paint colour.
I like that mix of pots with your DA rose and the fern @Ffoxglove, interesting and different. I like ferns and have a plan to try and combine a couple in the ground with a rose, don't know if it'll work with the conditions and the selected candidates but we'll see.
That Boscobel is an amazing and stand-out colour @poppyfield64. It's not a rose I've really noticed before although I knew the name, it's looking great there.
If I want to post a comment on someone's post how do I put the @name on my post. If you know what I mean. This is the first forum I've been on and I'm just finding my way around. I must admit that all the photos are giving me a great deal of pleasure by being "real" roses and not just roses being advertised for sale.
