@poppyfield64 my boscobel is only a few weeks old but it seems to be holding up with nice strong stems and the flowers are just beautiful. I have had similar problems with my teasing georgia, it has finished it's first flush but the flowers were so top heavy and droopy, it was very disappointing!

@rock_hen that really reassuring to hear.  Hopefully I will have the same experience.  Such a shame about your teasing georgia though.  Fingers crossed if she has a second flush they will be better.

@rock_hen & @poppyfield64 I have a Boscobel which I’ve had in the ground over a year. I’ve found the blooms to be a bit of a mixed bag, some droopy and others more upright. I’ve quite a variety in sizes too so unsurprisingly some of the bigger ones are a bit more droopy. I do like it though and it has come along quite nicely over the last year. The only disappointment this year is that it’s scent has vanished. Last year it was lovely but this year it’s nonexistent.

@Aero84 sounds like it's a bit hit or miss.  Do you think it will even out as it matures?  Strange how you have no scent this year.  I saw a DA The Alnwick rose in bloom at a garden centre yesterday.  It's rated as being medium/strong fragrance but had none at all.  If it had smelled good I think I may have picked it up.

A quick question for all you amazing rose experts, it may have been discussed before. I'm looking for the purplest rose there is. I love the twilight zone I have and although it seems purple when its opening and in certain light it's actually more burgundy than purple. Is there a pure purple rose out there?

@poppyfield64 The blooms do look extra big against my husband's arm but I think of them as large  at 9-10cm.

@rock_hen I've tried many purple roses and they are either towards red/burgundy or towards pink. It can depend greatly on the weather and the stage of the bloom.
I truly adore 'Reine des Violettes', I don't think anything modern has this moody violet colour but in warmer climates, she is mostly pink.
Some gallicas are true purple but the cost is they are once-blooming.
'Purple Skyliner' is very pretty, a small climber similar to 'Veilchenblau'.
I used to have 'Midnight Blue', the colour is very pretty, but it died. I think it's a similar colour to 'Twilight zone' and slightly better than 'Ebb Tide' (which is a lot towards burgundy).
I still have high hopes for 'Purple Lodge' but not enough experience with it yet.

@Katsa your roses are looking great, what a lot of hard work you have put in, that looked like a well-deserved rest! Do both Pure Poetry and Gospel (hate the Proper Job name!) ball and also fry in sun? Looks like they might be a bit delicate for me after all, but it’s always tricky to judge early on, especially with mad changeable weather.

@rock_hen I think a pure purple is really hard for breeders to achieve, most have a touch of burgundy, the pink gene is clearly very strong in roses and blue pretty impossible, and you need the blue to create the purple. Have a look at Ebb Tide and Forever Royal, both on my list as I love a purple too. Stormy Weather is the closest I have so far, as it starts off burgundy but fades to a lovely dusky purple. Cooler weather seems to bring out the purple tones more. I like burgundy, however, just as well! How do you find the growth habit and general performance of Twilight Zone?
