I’m so jealous, love these beautiful roses but I have sandy loose soil and have lost 2 David Austin roses in the past, I just don’t seem to be able to keep them going! I can almost smell the roses from the pictures (or is it my vase of pinks on the table, picked from the garden yesterday)
Its actually as wide as it is high. It was sold to me 5 years ago as the shrub version of Claire Austin. I have the climber Claire Austin and this is definitely not Claire Austin. I actually think it might be tranquility, given DA's description on their website
@Tack Mine is still young so I can't help. I would assume it would make a good obelisk rose (on a usual obelisk between 1.5m and 2m) or if espaliered on a fence, it would cover one fence panel. But that's just guessing. Do you want it to grow vertically up, staying narrow, or do you have space on one or both sides from your allocated soil space to train it horizontally?
Thank you for replying @edhelka . There is plenty of space to train it horizontally once it reaches the 1m and 2m high horizontal fence rails . If you don't think it will make much impact at 2m maybe something else would be better, that is where it will be most visible.
Sorry Mary. I haven't a clue. It's been there for yonks. I'll Google and see if I find something similar OK. Royal Candles looks like the one but I couldn't be certain Will tolerate hot sun provided you give it a drink when it asks for it😉 @Mary370
I just planted Aphrodite, and accidentally knocked off a new stem and then buried the injury in the soil. Should I excavate around the injury or am I thinking my roses are more like people than is healthy?
Here's an image of the plant. It smells beautiful...
And here are a couple of other roses that arrived today:
Boule de Neige The smell from this rose is PHENOMENAL. I can't wait for it to grow and for another warm, sunny day when the perfume will be even stronger.
@Katsa Interesting roses. Have you bought directly from Kordes? What do you think about their fragrance? I want to order from Kordes (Kiss me Kate and probably something else from the Parfuma collection) in autumn.
Last year, the wind broke a stem from Gertrude Jekyll, it was only hanging on a thin amount of wood. I used a bamboo stick to support it and tied it back in and it has regrown the connection and healed. I am not sure if this is a correct way of doing things but that was the only new cane last year and too precious to lose. Many flowers on it this year, the scar is still visible but the cane is strong and fine. I don't know if similar injuries heal better with soil around them or without. In my situation, it was from the graft planted above soil level but with bark mulch around it.

Comtesse Marie-Henriette ® Aka 'Lovely Parfuma'
The smell from this rose is PHENOMENAL. I can't wait for it to grow and for another warm, sunny day when the perfume will be even stronger.
Constanze Mozart aka 'Pretty Parfuma'
It's nestled in a pot surrounded by blue irises. I hope that next year, there's going to be some overlap between the two.
Anyway, any advice regards a broken stem and dirt would be gratefully received.
