I had an uncle who had measles, left him with his eyes completely crossed.  When my two had it the doctor said to keep the curtains drawn.

A friends mum is deaf as a result of catching measles as an unvaccinated adult. And I know people with profound disabilities as a result of their mothers catching German measles in pregnancy. No room for complacency.

Sadly, COVID vaccine deniers, are having a major effect on vaccinations for everything else too.
It makes no sense to me, I have travelled extensively, and I am sure vaccinations kept me alive in some of the places I visited, I have my flu vax. every year, recently had pneumovax. and will have my shingles vax. ASAP.

I don't think there was a measles or MMR vaccine when I was a child. Fortunately I haven't caught it (I did have mumps and rubella as a child) - not sure whether the vaccine is available for adults. Shingles and pneumonia vaccines aren't available to me yet but I'll have them as soon as I reach the age criteria. I'd rather risk side effects from a vaccine than getting the disease and possible after-effects. The one I really wish had been available when I was young is the HPV vaccine.

My daughter is going to Vietnam on a cycle trip following the river to Cambodia,  she went to speak to the doctor about vaccines,  two of them were ok but she said she didn’t need hepatitis B as it’s only spread by bodily fluids, or rabies,  daughter said suppose someone spits on me or I should get raped,  doubt that would happen said the doctor,  then the rabies,  doctor said you won’t be cuddling any furry animals, daughter said a dog might bite me or a monkey may just out of a tree and bite her,  doctor laughed at her,  now she’s looking for a pharmacist who will do them for her.

What a disappointing attitude from that doctor! How does he/she know what your daughter is planning to do on her trip - it's none of their business if she wants to cuddle animals or share bodily fluids with someone, not that I'm suggesting she will, but it's not the doctor's job to assume anything.

I certainly had Rabies jab before first safari trip to Africa, but you only need it once in your life.
I always used to get mine at the University Tropical Medicine department, or MSF would organise them if I was working for them.

I had a hepatitis B vaccine (two doses I think) before a trip to Malaysia when I was a student.

All Drs. working in acute specialties have to have Hep. B. and we had our status checked regularly
