The simple reality is that the NHS ie the State can't afford to provide all medication free of charge.  If those who are considered to be vulnerable do get things free, what's the problem with others who want, but don't necessarily need, the vaccine being asked to pay for it?

What about those who want it, but can't afford it?
Health should not depend on the ability to pay.

  • Healthcare should be available to everyone who needs it. For those who don't need it, but want it, then they ought to pay for it.

But then, don't all we Brits who pay tax and National Insurance, pay for it anyway, in a roundabout way?

Who do you categorise as not necessarily needing a vaccine @KT53?

Well we're not rich but we wouldn't hesitate to pay £100 for the vaccine. Just like we wouldn't hesitate to pay £100 to the vet, or the plumber, or towards our holiday. It's just a choice like many others.

But I thought the rush to get vaccines developed was a way of staying ahead of the virus. The more people vaccinated, the less virus in circulation.

You could never accuse the govt of being foresighted, no.

Many people cannot afford that amount, why should you take precedence? The people who can least afford it, are probably those that need it most. For many, it would be a choice between eating and having the vaccine, not having a holiday.

If there was loads of vaccines being wasted, clearly some younger people should be given it, but the evidence for that is very poor.

I suppose the ones that need it most will get it on NHS.
It cost my daughter £500.00 for vaccines to go to Vietnam and Cambodia.

For those who think everyone should get it [ which I don't disagree with ] the cost to vaccinate all those who don't get it now, assuming a 70% take up rate, £300,000,000, probably 2X a year. I have no idea whether it is worth it.
