Covid-19

  • I had my flu and Covid jabs in Oct. and have been avoiding crowded shops for the last couple of months. Have had a few sniffles but nothing more. I have been thinking about wearing a mask again when shopping.
I only had proper flu once, 50 years ago when teaching in London. I was ill for 2 weeks and thought I was dying. When I had what I now think was Covid, prior to testing etc., I couldn't stay awake for more than an hour or two, had a swollen throat, no sore throat, no cough or temperature, and no appetite but when I did eat, everything tasted extremely sweet, salty or had no flavour. The taste thing is still much the same, something I miss as I love my food.

There’s been some awful flu epidemics in the past.  We knew a few people who died,  that must have been  about 50 years ago, bit more I think.  Viruses are the worse thing,  no cures,  they thrive and multiply.  I suppose the Spanish flu was the worst of all.
Hopefully in the future there will be a vaccine to kill them,  the childhood  viral diseases,  polio, mumps and chicken pox have been eradicated. (Mostly)

  • I've not been offered the COVID vaccine this time around, despite being in one of the "at risk" groups. GP said I was not eligible, so if I go down with it, I can expect to see the pavement close up, very suddenly.

    It's been 10 months since I had a major fall requiring hospital visit to A & E.

Wife has just gone down with a temperature and cold, so I expect to follow in a week. I can't avoid contact with her!! But am using the anti-bacterial gel to try and avoid picking up the germs from door handles, etc.

@rowlandscastle444 that is a shame.  My son had his when they were first available,  he’s only 55.  Would you have had a bad reaction?  Maybe that’s why they didn’t offer it.

How long before I know whether I caught anything on the buses?
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • I don't know @b3. I hope you will be ok. Is 5 days the recommended time before testing?

Can anyone tell me why you can't buy a Covid booster in the UK if you are not in an eligible group and it's more than six months since your last one? Why are they not available to buy privately?
