That's a good question. Are there any other foreign substances hanging about in our bodies? YES. Is the risk of COVID greater than the risk of these proteins? YES. Cancer vaccines are being developed, they will be mRNA type vaccines, will you have one, or is the risk of foreign proteins bigger than the risk of the cancer? Within a few years we will have a whole host of other treatments based on this technology, I am very grateful, even if it will be far too late for me.

My 85 year old friend has covid now for the first time - badly. She is sure she is only here because she has had the boosters.

I think our stance may depend on whether we are generally suspicous of innovation/tech/medical fields or supportive of them. Are we generally cynical non-adopters? The people I know who have rejected covid vaccines are all suspicious of medical fields and have been all their lives. They live on the look out for cons from govts, 'science', and corporations. They feel that the "powers that be" are generally out to get them and bode no good. Vaccinations are just one expression of that.
There maybe reasons to be wary, but wearing those glasses all the time, through all our lives, can cut us off. Self-reflection might illuminate for us, whether we are rejectionists, how we evaluate health choices, and how we decide what to consider an 'evidence base'.
This is a realm I have been negotiating for twenty years: how to be genuinely informed, how to neutrally evaluate evidence without being any kind of expert in the field, working out who to trust and why, trying to demark what counts as a risk without resorting to anecdote, bias, or slopping thinking. Humans are spectularly bad at evaluating risk over time and calculating probabilty.
@B3 “mRNA acts as an important messenger in human cells. These molecules carry unique codes that tell our cells which proteins to make and when to make them. “, so the internet.
m(essenger)RNA is described as short-lived but this wasn’t the case. Not only that it never dissolves, now they found in tests with mice that it created unwanted proteins in 25% of them.
Punkdoc, it might be too late for you, but if you were 20 and forced to take the vaccine (remember that France made it compulsory and unvaccinated people in Germany were literally restricted in their movement) but get damaged from them, you might think differently.
Cancer is changed body cells that turn into different (negative) cells.
It doesn’t need much imagination that this report caused some worries.
@Simone_in_Wiltshire France only made it compulsory for health workers to be vaccinated against Covid - a perfectly reasonable stance given the need to protect health workers and reduce transmission in places where health and immunity were already compromised.

I think saying someone is very stupid for making a decision about whether or not they take a vaccine is a bit harsh. As mentioned, there are lots of incidents of people being told a certain medicine is good etc only to find out years later that is maybe not the case. We can all have our own beliefs and only time will tell who is right or wrong. The world seems to becoming very polarised, you are either for or against x or y, be it vaccines/ politics/ religion etc. why can’t people be left to make their choices and not be chastised by the other side for that choice? I see lots of assumptions being made on this thread.
Just because someone decides not to have a vaccine does not mean they are anti vax. I work in healthcare! I am aware about the benefits of vaccines. Had all my vaccines including this years flu and all my Covid…..except my last booster. I have explained why before (health reasons), so I have made a decision based on the evidence I have that I feel is right for me at this time. As with all medication you need to decide if the benefits of taking it out weigh the risks of not taking it. Does this make me very stupid? Maybe taking the vaccine given my current health would be the stupid choice, who knows. This is my choice for me. It is of no concern to anyone else what medical decisions I take and why, so please don’t jump to the conclusion that because someone has decided not to have a vaccine they are very stupid!
As I have tried to explain before, Newspapers rarely report medical stories correctly, the Guardian article was also wrong about the U.K. It is very dangerous to quote from scientific papers, unless you understand what they say. Within the next few years many drugs we take will be based on this technology, of course you will be free to choose whether you take them, but the risks of dying from cancer will be far higher than the risks of the vaccines.

If you have been damaged physically and/or mentally by the medical profession in the past it is very difficult to trust them for any future reason. VERY difficult. Your judgment is easily skewed by experience.

In mammalian cells, mRNA lifetimes range from several minutes to days.[27] The greater the stability of an mRNA the more protein may be produced from that mRNA. The limited lifetime of mRNA enables a cell to alter protein synthesis rapidly in response to its changing needs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Messenger_RNA

@Simone_in_Wiltshire In France too we had to show our vaccination certificate - or QR code on a portable phone - in order to use pubic transport, go to bars, restaurants etc and also to attend indoor activities such as patchwork club.
It did no seem unreasonable given how infectious Covid was and how devastating for some of those infected or bereaved.

In Germany, non-vaccinated people were only allowed to enter a supermarket and pharmacy. Everything else was forbidden, no public transport, no restaurant, pub etc.
