What Britain actually needs is some joined up thinking that provides for better education so people can acquire the skills to do jobs that pay better and an appreciation for those people doing what are tradtionally viewed as low-skilled and/or demeaning jobs such as retail, hotels, restaurants, bars, care staff, porters, cleaners in all sectors.
Kindness and a sense of personal and community responsibility seem to be in increasingly short supply and they are what should illumniate every personal, political, economic and environmental decision and policy. Everyone should be prepared to work towards and contribute as best they can for a better society with local and national cohesion.

Agree totally with your first comment, @Obelixx. However it continues to amaze me, that someone who has not lived here for Avery long time, knows what the country needs. Maybe stick to what France needs. @rowlandscastle444, I would have thought a man of your Christian beliefs would be against killing people off.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team

I never said that I was in favour of killing people off @punkdoc What I stated was that Britain needs more deaths, then followed that with the comment that such a statement is ironic.
As a Christian, I believe in the sanctity of life, but my comment was based on what it would appear British society requires in order to survive.
I have come very close to death on several occasions. TOO close. But I do accept that society would probably be better off if I were no longer alive. I'm no longer able to benefit society as a whole.
Thus, other than close family, I benefit no-one. I am a burden on society. I was not saying that a specific person or persons should die, only that society would benefit if there were fewer of us. If that meant that choices had to be made, then I am ready to sacrifice my life for the greater good. I cannot speak for anyone else.
Have I made myself clear? Apologies if my statement upset anyone. I will remove myself from this forum for having caused offence.
To value only a person’s financial contribution to society is the path that led to eugenics and the gas chambers. @rowlandscastle444 I’m sure that’s not your real view of those who, for whatever reason, are unable to work, but I’m concerned that you see yourself as a drain upon society in general and of value only to your nearest and dearest. Thankfully there is more to value in life than what is tangible.

Quite a few years ago the rules for Job Seekers, i.e. those able to work but not in work, were changed so that after something like 6 months of failing to find a job in their preferred job area they would be expected to accept any job they were able to do. Failing to do so would see their benefit reduced. That was a complete and utter failure as people would accept a job, be deliberately completely and utterly useless at it and be sacked. They then began the cycle all over again.
I understand the point @rowlandscastle444 made … but I dispute it’s validity … many things other than the tangible are of value to society … they’re what make us human.
@pansyface I can assure you that your posts on here have contributed to the quality of my life. 😊

I'm sad to read this. I think you sound a tad depressed. Please speak to someone about these feelings. I know of Samaritans but there are others too. /www.mentalhealth.org.uk/ex

Life - it's the only one you get so make the best of it. I do understand the observation made by @rowlandscastle444. Once we get to pension age and actually retire we are a burden on society financially. It's a factual statement and doesn't mean the person is depressed and/or in need of help.
That said, if we've worked all our adult life we've contributed plenty so I see no problem is taking some now.
I'm still working hard trying to convince my wife that I don't want a funeral service. I have no family of my own left, so the only people who will/may give a damn when I pop my clogs will be her and her family. I see no value is wasting £1000s on a full blown funeral service.
