Some jobs for the young so that they don't need benefits  and can afford pay taxes to pay for the pensions and care of the old might be a better solution .

Hello , well that’s an interesting slogan “ Britain Needs More Deaths “ , it reminded me of the WWW1 slogan from Lord Kitchener “ Your County Needs You”

According to the ONS there are over 1 million job vacancies.  I have no idea what those jobs are but I know people who work in retail and hospitality who say it's difficult to recruit young(er) people and many who do start don't last long.

I was on holiday in Tenby last year and several Pubs & Restaurants/cafes where having to close for at least 2/3 days a week due to staff shortages. This year it was a lot better but at least half of the retails units where still advertising for staff

It sounds as if the available jobs aren't what young people want to do, but if an unemployed person is on the kind of benefit where you're supposed to be actively seeking work (I'm out of touch with the names these days) surely they should take any job that they're capable of, at least until they find something better. There's no denying retail and hospitality can be hard work, but surely young healthy people should be able to manage it.

How many of these jobs pay a living wage? How many need skilled workers we don't have because we don't invest though in training and apprenticeships? How many of these jobs were filled by foreigners paying taxes who, post Brexit, are paying taxes elsewhere?

Probably some, some, and quite a lot particularly in places like London.
Something's wrong somewhere if employers can't recruit the staff they need but there are still people unemployed who could be working.

Be careful what you say @Fire
If I volunteered, you really COULD be next.
But I can only speak for myself. I can't volunteer my family and friends. They'd have to do so for themselves. Or not.
