Obviously some folk… like @BenCotto … are perfectly happy with an unscheduled visit. Others, such as yourself, may not be so happy … in that case you can say ‘No thanks … please book an appointment.’   I’m sure it’s not a case of now or never. 😊

With medical staff in general being so stretched it just seems like common sense as well as courtesy to make appointments.  That would reduce/eliminate repeat calls with the associated waste of time and effort.  GP surgeries complain, rightly, about patients not keeping appointments and the cost in both time and money when that happens.

    re: BBC article.

What worries me, is even if true, almost twice as many people are dying each year than before COVID.
Also there is no mention of the increasing number of cases of long COVID, which is having a devastating effect on the population.

is there really twice as many people dying each year now? I had a quick look but can’t see this statistic. Is this world wide/uk? Or maybe I am misunderstanding your comment.
This UK gov site says a 6% increase over the 5 year average and a decrease year on year.

Sorry, I probably didn’t explain it well. Roughly the same number of people die of flu, as die of COVID, so that is twice as many dying as when there was no COVID.

Hello , I’ve notice lots of shops etc have now taken the plastic barriers down , quite noticeable

I noticed that a couple of weeks ago too @GWRS.
Before that I'd noticed that in quite a lot of shops they were getting tatty/damaged so it might have been a case of replace or remove. I'm glad I don't work in retail.
