  • A very good item on R4 this morning,  on the programme  More or Less, with Tim Hartford. They look into the detail of facts and figures in the headlines . Talking about the situation in the NHS, in spite of the claims of more doctors nurses  money etc, why the service is struggling.  It's the second item in the show worth 10 minutes of your time.  On BBC sounds or wherever you get your catch up. .

It's okay having more doctors and nurses and money in the system but if the population in each area is growing quicker than the resources then things will only get worse
  •  @mac12 That's  one of the points they make, plus 10 years of chronic under resourcing along with other things. I  don't want to try to repeat the whole thing here. Worth a listen if you're interested.

Just in my observations of the ‘hospital population’ over the last 25 years or so is how many more frail people with multiple medical issues there are now. They often take longer to recover from issue/illness, have more complications and end their episode being even more frail.

...the difference in answering ambulance 999 calls was disturbing eh? BUT we are still in Covid - although I think the gov wants people to see Covid like Brexit - 'we got it done'. Out of headlines out of mind out of impact...

Yes and it's the reasons, along with covid, for the delays that are the most telling.

  • Perhaps it's because I often type to my kids "f******phone,it was getting its own back.
@Nanny Beach - that would explain it then  :D  You popped into my mind this morning - sitting in the surgery waiting for vaccinations and the info screen was rabbiting on about STD's and how easy it was to test for them.  Good job I had my mask on so no one could see me sniggering ;)

    Philippa, you are very naughty!!
  • Sorry Mum  :D

For anyone having Pneumonia and shingles vacs and wondering about any side effects - I found the pneumonia one has left me with arm ache ( much the same as the Covid ones ) but no effect from the shingles one. I was told that both were a "one off" so a relief to know.
  • Oh dear - a PS - just spoken to a neighbour who did have a bad reaction to her shingles vacc.  Extremely dizzy but she's OK after seeing the doctor.
