Unfortunately, I'm not eligible this time. Maybe if it becomes a problem they'll extend the eligibility? @punkdoc do you think it's likely?

    Yes they might, @raisingirl.
If it turns out to be nasty, then the vaccine programme will be extended, and other measures may be needed.

I thought that as a virus mutates, it gets weaker,  has this one become stronger now this year.

Mutation can make a virus stronger or weaker.

  • Hmm … well I thought I’d booked an appointment for the 28th  but I’ve not had a confirmation email or text, so I went online to check and the site appears to be down or at least struggling with a glitch.

So I rang 119 … when I pressed the COVID jab option a recording told me that all the operators are busy …  ‘Goodbye’.

So I rang the pharmacy I’d chosen and explained … ‘You’ve not had a confirmation have you? the nice pharmacist said … ‘No one has.’  She said I could ring 119. I explained that they just said goodbye and ended the call. ‘Oh dear ‘ she said ‘we’ve been telling everyone to ring them … and we can only see the diaried appointments on the day they’re due’ … so she can’t tell whether I’m booked in or not either

I’ll try 119 again tomorrow … or perhaps if I’m awake in the wee small hours 🤔

We were lucky then @Dovefromabove, we'd had both text and email reminders this morning before we left. We were also asked if we'd like flu jabs at the same time, which was actually more convenient for us than our mid-October appointments, so we said yes.

I did remember to tell the pharmacist I was now taking both steroids and blood thinners so he double checked with a colleague and confirmed it was okay to proceed. I hope he's right as the Predisilone Patient Leaflet said not to have vaccinations. Something to do with my immune system now being compromised? Anybody know more?

I'm assuming it is more important for me not to catch the new Covid variant.

Booked our appointments on line, and duly made our way to the centre this afternoon. Parked outside, and were in and out in ten minutes at the most. Told not to drive for 15 minutes, so we had a look round the adjoining farm shop while we were there.
Seemed rather nicer than our last visit ( the crabs are now in three large tanks, with plenty of room to distance from each other, all much cleaner too. The lobsters had a separate tank with bubbling water- didn’t upset me so much, but I was careful not to look for long)
I saw lots of post jab clients heading up to their cars with bags of produce, and bread from the bakery. Hasn’t done the farm shop owners any harm by providing space for a vaccination centre on their land!

Nothing interesting at ours but, if so inclined, I could have made off with several packets of envelopes. But who posts paper mail anymore?
