Just had my flu jab. The pharmacist said that if I felt a bit as if I was getting a cold over the next few days don’t take paracetamol or ibuprofen etc as it will delay the vaccine becoming effective … if I feel very ill dial 999 or go to A&E.

I’ve never been told not to take paracetamol etc before … anyone else?
I have heard this in relation to both vacs and disease. The suggestion is that the temperature is part of our bodies natural defences and we shouldn't immediately try and reduce it.
There's a lot we still need to learn.

I’m sure I read somewhere that ibuprofen is not recommended for a couple of days after an injury, can’t remember why. Paracetamol is ok for most things if dose is followed strictly. I have a slightly tender arm this morning after the Covid jab yesterday, but if I have distractions, I don’t even notice it. So far, so good.

My understanding is that ibuprofen is anti-inflammatory. Sometimes inflammation is useful, part of the healing process after an injury, but sometimes it's not useful or even damaging like auto-immune arthritis, in which case ibuprofen is helpful. Paracetamol (I think) acts on the pain receptors and temperature regulation in the brain not locally on the source of the pain.

As @JennyJ says it is incredibly complicated: fever can be good, or bad; inflammation, good, or bad.
Most people do not get a fever following vaccination, they still get an immune response. There is no evidence that a fever ensures a better response.
Inflammation is the normal response to infection, too much inflammation is septic shock. No inflammation leads to overwhelming increase in infection.

However, absence of evidence, is not the same as evidence of absence.

Is there anyone on here who feels absolutely crap the day after their Covid boosters?
I have to have mine when I know there is nothing planned for the following day. My son and daughter are exactly the same.
  • Ive never had a noticeable reaction to any jab 😊

Everybody is different , personally I’ve had no after effects from any Covid jabs , hope that applies to this one as well , I have known people not felt to good after there but as I said at the start “ everybody is different “
Best of luck to you all

I've only ever had local soreness and swelling around the injection site from vaccinations. I do know people who've felt awful for a few days afterwards with flu-ish symptoms.

My sister is threatening not to have her booster this autumn, as she felt really dreadful for days with the last couple of jabs. Very worrying. At least I can reassure her that we re both ok so far.
  • No sign of any flu or Covid jags here.
In Scotland we have to wait for a letter with an appointment. Wish I could just go online and book.

Nothing about Covid vaccination here in Wales, (though I have had a flu jab at Boots.) It’s disappointing
