True. A bit like the book at bedtime last week “The Premonitions Bureau”.

A real story of an organisation that was set up to see if some people could predict the future.

But then if they could, they would, and if they did then the thing that they had predicted could be stopped, in which case their prediction would not be a prediction…

They gave up in the end. 🙂

I'm curious to know if others are seeing what I'm seeing. I know lots of people who have had COVID over the past two or three months - presumably Omicron BA.4 or BA.5. None have been 'scarily' ill, but they almost all have been sicker than vaccinated people seem to have been prior to that. Most will not have had a booster for some time, given their ages / health status (though one is pretty certain he caught it in the queue for his booster!), and all have had experiences varying from a really bad debilitating cold to full-blown, long-lasting flu. The headaches and fatigue are ongoing for several.

When this household had it last winter, we and those we knew who also tested positive then and through the spring rarely had worse symptoms than 'a bit of a cold', maybe a slightly sore throat for a day or two, or in my case just sneezing a bit more than usual. And whilst most of us tested positive for about 10 days, we only had any symptoms at all for about 5.

I realise that back then many people were routinely testing so a lot more asymptomatic cases were being found, whereas now people are only testing when they have symptoms (if then), but it definitely seems to me that more people are getting sicker with it now than they were, and they're ill for longer.

Is it the variant? Is it that it's combining with other illnesses? Are others seeing this too?

I don't know the answer to your questions in your last paragraph @LG_
I do know that there are a lot of colds around at the moment though, more than is normal I think.
I haven't had covid yet but fully expecting to get it this coming season, my luck can't possibly last much longer.
I've just been for my booster and was given the Pfizer which I had last time, the nurse said with a little bit extra to deal with the new strain of covid.

    @LG_

I think there are 2 main reasons people are sicker if they get the virus now: firstly, immunity is decreasing, due to length of time since their last vaccine dose, and secondly, newer mutations of Omicron, which although previous vaccines offered some protection against, it was not as good as will be obtained from the new vaccines.

Thank you @punkdoc - I thought that was probably the case. Is it something that is being seen more widely, do you know? I've been surprised by it, though I suppose I shouldn't have been.

it is certainly being reported by colleagues country wide, and there has been a significant increase in the numbers requiring ICU.

I'm looking forward to my vaccine next week, though I'm going to be coming into contact with quite a lot of people between now and then so I hope it's not too late 😐

Currently suffering with Covid, four weeks after my autumn booster, and a week after recovering from a two week long ‘cold’. The ‘cold’ was pretty unpleasant, sore throat, sinus pain and headaches. I was convinced it must be covid, but over the two weeks, did 5 tests, all negative.
Had my flu jab first thing this Saturday morning, ( wore my mask, and in and out of the surgery in minutes) but started to feel a bit odd in the afternoon. Thought it might be the flu jab.
Next morning, woke with sore throat, cough and a runny nose. As I rarely get coughs, I did a test just in case, and it was strongly positive.

Is there any chance the cold I had was actually covid, but not bad enough to register on the test? Or did the cold reduce my immune response and leave me more vulnerable?
Anyone know what the incubation period for the current variant is?
