After my flu cancellation I looked around for appointments and found a cancellation spot in a pharmacy in another local town. I got there this afternoon only to be told that they're not taking bookings this week as their pharmacist is off ill :|  They didn't know why my booking had been taken. At least they were next door to a bakery so it wasn't a totally wasted trip. I'm starting to think it will be easier just to have the flu.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

People in London are certainly going down with a wave of bugs. The local hospital are on very short staff.

I got a text from my local pharmacy (less than a minute walk,) in August to say they were doing flu jabs in September, and would notify me, with appointment. Walked round one day, notice on door,re flu jabs, was told,we don't book, just come in certain days and hours. We told by surgery "we aren't doing Covid jabs, wait for a message"....they never have done them. Then hubby read in the paper, you could book online,we did and had them a couple of weeks back.  Hubby was texted by surgery to come for routine bloods. I've been taking his BP for years. They used to ring, explained he worked 40 miles away.... couldn't pop in. At one point they opened the surgery early morning and late night for working folk. We also had a little secondary surgery 10 minutes walk,(it closed this year) they were happy I was trained to do his BP. He went for the bloods, literally got in the door...my phone pinged with a text for him to make an appointment for a BP check, what a waste of time!!!! I got a text saying book a wellness check, drove to surgery, made the appointment. Went in,girl did bloods, said" we don't do wellness checks on people already on medication for any reason,it's to see if you have any problems". As I left, she added,"we will only contact you if there's a problem with the bloods, but if you have not heard in a week, then ring", well, which is it.....ring, don't ring!!! For some years now,pre pandemic,it's been normally nurse,or paramedic appointment. You have to give reception staff details,(my last problems were the most intimate) and I drove to the surgery, unable to get through on the phone.

I hope you refused to give the receptionist those intimate details Nanny Beech.

For those who are interested [ and who don't doubt my qualifications to speak on this ]

COVID cases are now rising very dramatically
Only 50% of people eligible for a booster dose , have had one.
23,000 deaths in England this year [ genuine COVID deaths ].

The SAGE CCareGroup, on which I sit has been reconvened because of imminent ICU be problems.

On our local news they said our hospital was the worst in the country for admissions for covid.   There were 98 people admitted in the week up to 3rd October.
On the other hand,  South West has had the most take up for vaccines.

Not sure what that means really,  more have had the vaccine and more are admitted to hospital?

What is Covid number five? We have had first, booster and spikevax and flu jab. Have we missed one?

Maybe I have unusual family/friends/colleagues/acquaintances, but most people I know have either already had their booster, or say they will have it as soon as it's available to them. The under-50s are mostly disappointed that they aren't being offered an autumn booster. My employer pays for flu vaccines for those of us who aren't old enough to get one on the NHS, and strongly encourages everyone to have one as well as COVID vaccines.

I suspect, as a group, those of us on the forum are unusual, here has been very little dissent on this thread, although from time to time, I did get some abuse.
