Not many people are afraid of catching covid if they were then they
would be wearing masks when outside but maybe 1 in a 1000 do the day the
government said they didn't need them everyone stopped
ONS data suggests a third of adults are worried about catching it. Mask wearing outside isn't indicative of anything as it was never considered necessary. If someone considers themself to be vulnerable they are likely to be avoiding crowded indoor spaces. The people you see still wearing masks are those that can't avoid those spaces but want to take an extra precaution, or those that are polite enough to realise that wearing a mask protects others.
Regarding punkdoc he said that the rise in hospital admissions and
therefore serious illness and death are going to start dramatically
escalating, when I asked him how many people are in hospital with pure
covid he replied it's not possible to say that to me makes his post
meaningless.
Hospital admissions are already rising. The data is available to anyone and is updated daily. 'Pure Covid' is a pretty meaningless phrase in this case though. I understand you're trying to hammer home a point about underlying health conditions but you're massively missing the point again. People aren't waltzing out of hospital after weeks of care feeling right as rain either.
Death certificates would say cause of death such as cancer this changed to covid. You
say about the ONS is this the same ONS who at the beginning of this
year released figures for deaths just from covid as something like 17000
in a 20 month period lots of people didn't like being told this so the
ONS had to withdraw it after that I struggle with ONS figures. I think
that there is a difference between dying with covid and from covid
Death certificates say what people died of, they aren't falsified in some bizarre conspiracy to scare people.
The 17000 deaths report was misinformation that was spread around social media by people who didn't understand what they were reading but it fit the narrative they wanted to believe https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/60145237
"The true death toll is more than 140,000, the ONS says. That number is
limited to deaths directly caused by the virus, not those "involving"
Covid or people who happened to test positive but died of other causes."
The ONS didn't withdraw their figures they just released statements telling people to use their brains.
Regarding masks I only know what I'm told and what I read
You're told to wear a mask to protect others. But you don't.
The average age of death from covid is 82 It is unusual for a healthy lad to become seriously ill with covid I
don't know any self employed people who would be happy having 2 months
off work with covid but I work for a nationwide company who pay full
sick pay and they had loads off work every week with covid until the
government said it didn't need reporting and the company stopped paying
now nobody off with covid I did think government advisors were paid to advise and I'm surprised they work for free
Punkdoc addressed the age thing above but 'average' means that younger people are just as likely to die and there will be some overlap with the average age of forum members I would imagine.
I work with a lot of self-employed people, mostly 'heathy lads', and I know many of them have had to take time off due to covid. One guy is a local farmer among other things and as healthy as they come but lost work and had to call in help to tend his sheep during lambing.
Again, focusing on deaths and age as the only measurable data point of the impact of Covid is willfully missing the point. Remember that hospital admissions have been highest in the under 24s.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
Thanks also, punkdoc. So helpful to have relevant information passed on by someone who knows what they are talking about, and has earned the respect of the forum over the years.
mac12, it would appear from your posts that you have only had one covid vaccination, and haven’t been wearing a mask. You are therefore very likely to have caught covid at some stage, but obviously without symptoms, and have therefore been infectious at some time. You have also previously stated that you work in a supermarket, so presumably you could have put colleagues and customers at risk. Your partner is a cardiologist, so working with elderly and medically compromised patients. Your actions would have increased the likelihood of her becoming infected, with a potential impact on her vulnerable patients. These aren’t the behaviours of someone I would remotely consider taking advice from, but thank you, anyway. I have made my apologies for the wedding.
OH is in retail and wears an FFP3 mask all day ... we both wear masks (either FFP2 or 3) when in shops and other places where we're likely to be within a few feet of strangers ... and we're avoiding public transport ....... and we've had all our jabs and are very grateful for them.
We also test before visiting my MIL who is in her 80s, or my younger brother who is extremely vulnerable due to multiple incurable cancers ... he has been told that should he contract Covid it is unlikely that he would be considered suitable for hospital treatment.

My son (37) died suddenly at the end of March 2021. Post mortum was unconclusive and blood and tissue samples showed that he had an 'infection', but actually died of DKA, ( a complication of his diabetes .) Nowhere on his death certificate mentioned COVID even though the infection probably was.
Just watching the news, they've just mentioned that 1 in 16 people have covid. Surely they should bring back wearing masks. I've not stopped wearing mine when out.
Saw in our news that we are one of the worse areas now, tourists by the millions, the hospitals are on a state of alert. No beds again. All of the ambulances were queued up outside.

Is there anyone left in government to organise things like that now?

Suspect short answer is No. Too busy scrambling to worry about that
